Better is Always Possible

One aspect of positivity is that better is always possible.

When things are bad, they can – and generally do – get better.

Maybe not immediately. Certainly not as quickly as you might prefer. But they can, and will, and do.

Because consciousness creates reality – this is something to be mindful of. When your thoughts and feelings are mostly subconscious, seeing better in a negative or even neutral situation can be challenging.

But when you practice mindfulness and are consciously (rather than subconsciously) aware of your thought, feelings, actions, and intentions – you gain influence and control over them. Thus, you can take a situation that’s not how you may desire for it to be and improve upon it.

That’s not to say that sometimes good is good enough. But when it’s not – or you’re in a bad place – better is always possible. This is a useful tool of positivity you can employ to not just exist and survive – but to thrive.

To recognize how better is always possible, there are some facts you need to acknowledge first.

We live in an abundant universe

One of the main issues of our fear-based society is lack, scarcity, insufficiency, and overall disbelief in abundance. We’re frequently presenting with ideas and images that lots of tangible and intangible things are finite and will either be taken from you by “the other”, denied you by “them”, or something else along these lines.

Then, we’re bombarded by these negative messages – and the fear-base of our society is perpetuated.

Most of the fears we live with are immaterial. The majority are, in my opinion, connected to ideas and notions of the probability of suffering. When ‘X’ runs out or ‘Y’ is gone there will be pain.

Often, this is a lie. For example, let’s look at the situation in Texas last week. Because of selfish actions on the part of big business and politicians, the people have been without power and heat in a brutal cold snap. Then, they’re being told that it’s due to lack and scarcity – which isn’t true. It’s due to poor planning and a sense of entitlement that has created the problem. It’s not lacking or scarce – it’s been mismanaged in the interests of the few – and lining their pockets – at the expense of the many.

Watch as they continue to spin the conversation and pass the blame to forms of lack, scarcity, and insufficiency. Or worse, claims that the “abundance” or regulatory oversight is the real problem.

In reality, there is plenty – and more than enough – literal power there. This is as true of the intangibles of the universe as the tangibles. When one resource “runs out” another can replace it – be it tangible or intangible.

The Universe is incomprehensibly enormous. That enormity transmutes itself into equivalent abundance. Hence, if things in life are bad or insufficient, better is always possible.

Most lack and scarcity is an artifice

Tangible things may run out. But that doesn’t necessarily make them lacking nor scarce. What it does is mean something else needs to be found to do the same thing.

When the industrial age came about it was largely powered by coal. Coal was eventually augmented by fossil fuels and nuclear power. These are all currently being augmented by wind, solar, and other renewable resources.

Literal power can be produced in so many ways that it’s not scarce nor lacking in the slightest. If and when the coal and petroleum run out, there will be other options to do the same thing. Thus, the implements to generate power are truly neither scarce nor lacking.

Now apply that notion to intangibles. Every single emotion you can conceive of is available in abundance. Yes, this means that all the negative feelings you can experience are abundant – but so, too, are the positives.

This is why there is no lack or scarcity of love, joy, kindness, compassion, or empathy at all. This is the reason why better is always possible – because it already exists even if it’s not with you now.

Of course, there will be bad days. Things utterly outside of your control or influence will impact your life. But how long the bad lingers is a choice on your part.

What that means for you may not be the same for me. But better is possible for everyone – no matter their life experience, upbringing, social status, or other artifices you care to employ.

Better is always possible via mindfulness

To seek, find, and/or create better in your life takes mindfulness.

Better seldom arrives out of the blue. Yes, if you are drowning and a lifeguard comes to your rescue, you’ll be better from that. But it’s still a two-way street – especially if you intended to drown yourself.

When you are consciously aware – rather than letting your subconscious direct you – you take control. You gain the knowledge of your inner being’s perception of reality via your mindset/headspace/psyche in the now. That’s achieved by being consciously aware of your thoughts, feelings, actions, intentions, and overall sensory input.

Many people, when things are bad, retreat from them. Avoid them. Hide away and hope they’ll just vanish. To be fair, in time, they might. But while they do that and remain passive, they only increase their suffering – or fear of suffering.

Practicing mindfulness is active. It takes back control from the subconscious and lets you choose and decide upon what to do, where to go, how and who to be, and the like. That increases all the possibilities and helps you find and/or create better.

If your inner being is largely focused on negativity you are empowered – via mindfulness – to employ positivity. When you recognize and acknowledge that better is always possible it empowers you.

This will sometimes seem to be a lie. But mindfulness will dispel that notion and open you to potential and possibility.

One word of caution

Better is always possible – especially in the light of bad, neutral, and not good enough. The exception being the pursuit of perfection.

There are times that good isn’t good enough, and better can and should be sought out. But there are plenty of times when good IS good enough and pursuing better is a bridge too far.

For example, let’s say you write a book. It’s good, but it could be better if you edit it. So, you edit it. It’s good, but it could be better if you hire a professional to edit it. You have made it better via these steps, and it’s ready to be published.

But for some people, even after the edit, it’s good – but they think it could be better. They go back, rework something, add or subtract something, then repeat the whole process above. It’s good, but they still believe it needs to be better – or closer to perfect.

Since perfection – like beauty – is in the eye of the beholder, it can be an infinite, endless, impossible pursuit. As Sheryl Sandberg said, “Done is better than perfect.”

This is an example where you have made it better by reaching the point where good is good enough – and you move forward. The constant search for better, unchecked, can become perfectionism and equally as negative as believing that better is not possible.

Recognizing that better is always possible isn’t hard

It begins with mindfulness of your thoughts, feelings, actions, and intentions.

Knowing that better is always possible, you can find and/or create something via mindfulness to take control and change the situation or experience. When you use the positivity of that to alter the course of your life experience – big or small – that ultimately empowers you.

When you feel empowered, your mindfulness increases, you become more aware overall, and that gets reflected and can spread to people around you. This creates a feedback loop of awareness and positivity.

You build more positive feelings and discover further reasons to feel positivity and gratitude. That can be the impetus to improve numerous aspects of your life for the better, help overcome the overwhelming negativity of any current situation, and generate yet more positivity and gratitude. You are worthy and deserving of all the good you desire.

An attitude of gratitude is an attitude of pure positivity. That positivity can generate even greater positive energies – and that, like you, is always worthwhile.
