What Does it Mean to Live in the Now?
To live in the now is ultimate positivity. Why? Because we are living.
No matter our present circumstances, we are here, living in a world of incredible abundance and possibility, now. The positivity of this is incalculable.
I know that this can be difficult to believe. I struggle with it, too. There are responsibilities, bills to pay, weight to lose and other matters that don’t feel so positive. Yet when we live in the now, we can experience a higher vibration and discover more positivity more frequently.
How does this work? It can be surprisingly challenging to live in the now. Because society is obsessed with both the past and the future, we tend to completely overlook the now. We are constantly in a state of worry about the future and concern about the past, and often at the same time. Thoughts like what if that thing I did in the past effects my future? or because I was a part of ‘x’ back then I will be excluded from ‘y’ down the line are accepted as the way the Universe works.
But this is not so. Einstein and other great minds in many disciplines have told us that time is only an illusion. I have only begun to understand the true meaning of this idea.
To put it in the simplest of terms, time is an illusion because the only real time we have is now.
All other time is colored by emotion, prejudice, experience, and whatever thoughts, emotions and actions that have happened or that we anticipate might happen. It is only in the here-and-now that time is completely true. This moment, this instantaneous moment, is the only time that truly is.
To live in the now is to truly be
Does this notion freak you out a bit? Me too…at first. As I look more closely at it, however, it is actually rather comforting. Why? Because in this moment, as I am writing these words, I am alive. I am breathing. I am.
Last week I explored identity and whether logic/reason and emotion/feeling can coexist. Both of these notions rely a great deal on past matters and future considerations going into creation of the self. Yes, consciousness creates reality, and identity is built from the thoughts, feelings and actions we take all throughout our lives. But the truest expression of who we are is in the now.
There are always three brands of truth in any given situation. Mine, yours, and the absolute. The absolute is unbiased, neutral, and generally somewhere in the middle of what we think. It is also utterly in the moment, a product of the now.
So why is this the ultimate positivity? Because it means absolutely anything is possible. In this moment, this very small moment in time, in the now I am. What that means is that I can choose to follow I am by whatever I desire to. As I am simply being, breathing, existing, anything is possible. That is exciting. That is ultimate positivity.
Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.
Knowing that when we live in the now, the illusion of time falls away, and we become capable of more than we typically imagine. When we step away from the past and the future to experience the now, and live in the moment, we ultimately empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
This is the two-hundred and twenty-fourth entry of my Positivity series. It is my hope these weekly messages might help spread positive energies for everyone. Feel free to share, re-blog and spread the positivity.
