You Control Your Mind

How you perceive everything – positive or negative – is yours to control.

I don’t know that I can fully put into words the tremendous positivity that comes from you being in control of your mind.

But I’m going to try.

First – please accept this statement: Human beings are animals. Our brains, however, have evolved beyond the simplicities of survival and propagation of the species. We can dream of new wonders beyond the comprehension not only of the rest of the animal kingdom but those who came less than a hundred years before us.

The technologies we take for granted today are the results of those dreams of yesterday made manifest.

That being said – consider this: You are the maker of your world. Your life is not just lived but created by you – and it begins inside your singular, unique mind.

In the words of Gene Wilder’s Willy Wonka (which is actually a quote from poet Arthur O’Shaughnessy:

“We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams.”

While thought, feeling, and overall perception of reality begin in the mind – that’s only the beginning. Because of its multifaceted nature, it goes beyond just the mind and permeates other places in the heart and soul – literally and metaphorically.

Most of the rest of the animal kingdom is limited to existing and surviving. They cannot adapt and live in any climate, build vehicles to travel faster and farther than their own feet can carry them, communicate instantly across the globe with one another, and so on.

But your ability to work with, change, alter, and control that is truly amazing. And that’s a huge positive.

Control your thoughts so they don’t control you

With the technology we have, we can get information instantly from sources credible and not.

Unfortunately, this has led us to many false narratives, beliefs backed by nothing by hearsay and conjecture, and opened the door for both wider cooperation, kindness, and compassion – and – incredible selfishness, entitlement, and judgment.

When you take it all in subconsciously and don’t pause to consider it – or to examine it consciously – it can dominate you. Before you know it, you feel like crap but can’t explain why. Maybe you find yourself feeling lost and untethered, upset, disconnected – but unable to quantify it.

Likely, this is the result of you not asserting your power to control your mind.

In the words of Napoleon Hill, author of Think and Grow Rich:

“Mind control is the result of self-discipline and habit. You either control your mind or it controls you.”

When you don’t practice mindfulness or perform any regular self-check on your inner being – mindset/headspace/psyche/perceived self – you likely are not controlling your mind.

When you don’t control your mind, you don’t control your life.

EVERYONE thinks. Admittedly, not everyone thinks deeply. But everyone thinks.

We are besieged by so many messages about how we should think, what we should do, who we should follow, and how anyone not along that path is suspect – is it any wonder people choose not to think for themselves?  If you accept the claims that “they” present to you, all will be as good as it can be – never mind the racist/sexist/classist subtext and the fact you are being misled for their own selfish interests.

Let me be blunt – do you lose ANYTHING with kindness and compassion for other human beings? Do you appreciate being treated without kindness and compassion? The answer to both questions should be NO.

Control your mind, control your life

When you know your mind, you know the answer. It’s much easier to see that taking away the rights of others doesn’t increase or improve upon your own.

Likewise, denying kindness, empathy, and compassion to others doesn’t give more to you. In fact, you reap what you sow.

Exhibit ‘A’ – the so-called conservatives screaming about “cancel culture.” You are being denied nothing – you are, instead, being repaid for your actions. When you deny good for others how does it shock you to have your own denied? Like attracts like and consciousness creates reality.

Which leads, ultimately, to a very important point. You have NO POWER WHATSOEVER over anyone else. And nobody else has any power over you – even when you cede power to them. YOU made what choices and decisions you made – or not. Even when you go along with someone else – and do something terrible – YOU chose that path.

Mindfulness is the ultimate recognition of your power. When you control your mind you control your thoughts, feelings, actions, and intentions on the surface. But more than that, you gain control of your inner being – your mindset/headspace/psyche self.

And all THAT control opens the door to getting into the depths of your subconscious and taking control of your beliefs and habits. When they do not serve or suit you, that control lets you alter, change, and replace them.

Thoughts are the starting point for it all. They originate in your mind. Get control of your thoughts, get control of your mind. And with that control, you are empowered to consciously create reality. Specifically, YOUR reality.

Mindfulness, self-awareness, and positivity

Getting control of your mind shows how you generally perceive life, the Universe, and everything. You learn if you have a victim mentality or a striver mentality. The difference between these two is one of ceding power and control versus accepting power and control.

Yes, you can be a victim of a happening. But you also choose if that’s the identity you take on. For example, if you are always failing, frequently being shit upon, constantly struggling, never right, or anything of this ilk – you likely have a victim mentality. Thus, you have ceded control of your mind – as well as your emotions, actions, and everything else.

In other words, you aren’t accepting your right/power to control your mind or the other aspects of yourself.

If you instead see failure and a lesson, stand up for yourself, see struggles more as challenges to learn and grow on, learning from when you are wrong instead of defining yourself that way, or anything of this ilk – you likely have a striver mentality.

Seeing the world as dark can be the perspective of both. But if you see no hope, no light, and no power on your part to create change – that’s negativity you choose. If, on the other hand, you see hope, ARE the light, and recognize you can control your mind via mindfulness and like practice – that’s positivity you choose.

The power of positivity

Positivity in no way denies the existence of negativity. True positivity can’t exist without negativity. What’s more, true positivity is generally built on a foundation of lessons learned from negative experiences.

Nobody is in your head but you. You have the power to control your mind. When you do – and you seek positivity rather than negativity – you are capable of making this world a better place for you, the people you care about, and ultimately everyone else, too.

How you perceive everything – positive or negative – is yours to control.

It isn’t hard for you to control your mind

It begins with mindfulness of your thoughts, feelings, actions, and intentions.

Knowing that you are the only one inside your head and that nobody else can think, feel, act, or hold intentions but you – you open yourself to mindfulness and control of your mind. When you work on conscious awareness to take control of your mind, you take charge of your metaphorical heart and soul – which ultimately empowers you.

When you feel empowered, your mindfulness increases, you become more aware overall, and that gets reflected and can spread to people around you. This creates a feedback loop of awareness and positivity.

You build more positive feelings and discover further reasons to feel positivity and gratitude. That can be the impetus to improve numerous aspects of your life for the better, help overcome the overwhelming negativity of any current situation, and generate yet more positivity and gratitude. You are worthy and deserving of all the good you desire.

An attitude of gratitude is an attitude of pure positivity. That positivity can generate even greater positive energies – and that, like you, is always worthwhile.
