Still Here? You Can Still Do Something

That’s more than you might realize.

I know that we live in a ridiculous, disconcerting, sometimes scary timeline. Spend any time on social media, watching or reading the news, and the insanity can quickly be overwhelming. If you have any degree of empathy at all, you might find yourself feeling distraught and helpless.

While it’s true that what we can do for the big picture issues is very little, that doesn’t mean we are powerless. You’re still here, which means you can still do something.

But what? First and foremost, take the wheel, empower yourself, and be your authentic self.

The truth is, you can always do something so long as you’re here, alive, and being. However, until you employ your conscious mind to look into and direct your subconscious mind, this is a challenge.

Your conscious mind is your present, in-this-moment awareness. It’s knowledge of your current mindset/headspace/psyche self, and recognition and acknowledgment of who, what, where, how, and why you are.

Your subconscious mind is where your memories, beliefs, values, and habits live. Unlike the conscious mind, which works only in the here and now, the subconscious mind is like an always-absorbing sponge. If you don’t check it and wring it out from time to time, it will hold stuff that’s not what you desire to hold.

How do you wring it out? By engaging your subconscious mind with your conscious mind. You shift from passive to active and put yourself in control. That’s empowerment.

Empower yourself, do more for others

Whether you drive a car or not, you likely know that a car must have fuel. No fuel, no go. You also need fuel to run on, but it’s not just physical fuel like food and drink. You have mental, emotional, and spiritual batteries as well. When they do not get properly fueled, you can’t function.

Because of the nature of our society today, too much focus is given to the physical body. I’m not saying that physical health, wellness, and wellbeing isn’t important, because it is. However, it’s not more important than mental, emotional, and spiritual health, wellness, and wellbeing.

You aren’t just physical. You are mental, emotional, and spiritual, too. Any element of you that’s not fueled, not cared for, and not balanced will impede your function. You can be in perfect physical health, but if your mental, emotional, and spiritual health are overcome by depression, you’re not functioning at full capacity. You can think positively all you want, but if what and how you feel is negative, you are likely struggling. If you think and feel positive, but you put no intention, or no approach, or no action into anything, you will create and do nothing.

Holistic health, wellness, and wellbeing means a balance of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. From that balance, which takes work in the here and now, consciously, you find your empowerment. When you’re empowered, you can do more for others.

It might not be all that you would desire to do. But just showing up, and being present, and awake and aware, you can positively impact those around. You become a beacon of light to fend off the darkness.

You can do something

Everyone has bad days. There isn’t a single person on Planet Earth who doesn’t go through sadness, sorrow, unhappiness, and other negative emotions. We all have bad days. Everybody makes mistakes. All of us occasionally need cheerleaders, inspiration, guidance, and/or help.

You are more powerful than you realize. That’s because you can do more than you think you can. It’s in your power to lend a hand to friends, share encouragement, reach out to someone in need, cheerlead another’s cause, protest wrongs, fight the isms (racism, sexism, ageism, etc.), speak truth to power, and treat anyone and everyone with kindness, compassion, and empathy.

There’s an underlying, utterly false narrative in the world today that kindness, compassion, empathy, and caring about others is weakness. Folly. Wrong. Nothing could be further from the truth. Be woke. It beats being asleep or otherwise under the influence of someone else’s bullshit.

If you look around you, you’ll see that if you’re here, you can do something. Even when you do something small, for only one person, it’s still more than nothing. When you are in no position to do something today for whatever reason, you’re still here, so do something tomorrow. Or later.

Empowerment is recognition of your power. You might not always feel it, you might not entirely believe it, but so long as you’re here, you can do something. All it takes is a little effort, kindness, compassion, and empathy. These are what make us all better. Reject the idea that these and other acts like them are somehow wrong. They’re not.

I boycott certain businesses, have attended protests, and write these blogs. That’s how I do something. I hope that by showing you how I empower myself, you get insight into how you can empower yourself, too.

Seeing that you can do something isn’t hard

It’s all about practicing active conscious awareness (mindfulness) of your thoughts, feelings, intentions, and the positivity or negativity of your approach to direct your actions.

When you recognize and acknowledge that you have the power to use your conscious mind to get hold of what’s in your subconscious mind, you can get a handle on and balance your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual health, wellness, and wellbeing. Knowing that balancing these four elements that make you, you, is wholly in your power, you open yourself to doing something for not just yourself, but also those you care about (as well as total strangers) via kindness, compassion, and empathy.

This empowers you, and your empowerment can, in turn, empower others around you.

Consciously choosing your approach to life towards positivity or negativity — from the vast cylinder that exists between them — shifts life in a way that opens greater dialogue. From that dialogue, you can recognize, explore, and share where you are between the extremes and how that impacts you here and now.

Choosing thoughts, feelings, actions, and intentions for yourself opens the way for a positive approach and attitude via your actions. This can lead to realizing amazing potential and possibilities for your life.

The better aware you are of yourself, here and now, the better you can choose and decide what, how, and why your life experiences will be. When you empower yourself, it can spread to those around you and empower them as well. That is an amazing conduit to help reason to overcome fear in the collective consciousness.
