Positivity: Refocus
Do you plan to have a good day, or a bad day?
Do you wake up looking forward to all the possibility the day represents, or in dread of what is to come?
This is where is it vitally important you know what you are focused on. If you intend to have a good day and explore new possibilities and expect good things, that goes a lot further towards making that your reality than if you expect a bad day and more problems and bad things to come your way.
This is, once again, not just thought…intent is about feeling. If you feel like everything is terrible and life sucks and you cannot win, you will find more often than not you are right. But if you feel that everything can potentially be good and life is full of possibilities and you can win, you have your focus in the right direction.
This is something that can be particularly challenging to a lot of people. Inundated with awful news and world tragedies, working a less-than-perfect job, health and financial issues often put us in the negative frame of mind. But when you give that all of your focus, you can’t fix it…you fixate on it. This in turn continues a spiral of negativity that seems, for many people, harder and harder to escape.
When you find yourself focused on negativity, you generally will see more negative things crop up around you. So it is really important that you notice where your mindset is. If it is on things that make you feel bad, unhappy, distressed, anxious or what-have-you, take a moment and do whatever you can to break that and instead find things to focus on that make you feel good, happy, relaxed and empowered.
Remember, it is not just about thought. I can think about positive and good things until the cows come home, but if I do not FEEL positive and feel good feelings I will be spinning my wheels and traveling nowhere.
I previously covered the notion of attitude shifters. Putting some of these into your own bag of tricks will help you to refocus when you are not feeling as you want to be, and to change your mindset and your feelings in such a way as to change your focus for the better.
The next time you are upset about a bad situation, world news, your weight, your income or what-have-you, take a close look at what you are focusing your attention and intention on. If your focus is not what you want to see from your life, take this opportunity to refocus, and shine more light onto more positivity.
Finding positivity is not hard, it just requires action. Knowing that we can change what we are focused on, we can work with this to alter how we are thinking and feeling. When we get ahold of our thoughts and feelings, we can focus on positive ones. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
