Positivity: All Are Created Equal
All are created equal.
Men, women, black, white, heterosexual, homosexual, American, Russian, Chinese, Jewish, Catholic, transgendered…what have you, we are all created equal.
Beneath the meat sacks we are running around the planet in, we are the same. We are all creatures of energy, when you get to our very core. The suits we wear to encounter the world differ, and our likes and dislikes may vary, but when all is said and done we are all equal.
Martin Luther King, Jr., fought non-violently to bring about equal rights for people treated differently because of something as trivial as the color of their skin. His legacy saw the Unites States elect a black President, who in turn supported more equal rights for same-sex couples. Inclusion is the message these men of influence deliver, and it is what we need to continue to work for.
Change frightens people. In part because it is the unknown, and in part because we get used to the way things are, and the uncertainty of change causes a great deal of anxiety. Yet generally the fear of change is far more distressing than any change might be.
Inclusion builds bridges, expands our culture, makes us a better, stronger, and I think happier people. Inclusion is a positive, it is welcoming and inviting and while it can celebrate diversity, it also lets us share with one another our individuality and lets us work together to find new means to better our world.
The forces of exclusion are feeling empowered following the election in the United States and the Brexit vote and such. They think they are empowered to divide us further along the lines of religion, race, sexual orientation, and probably any other divisions they can conceive. The world is changing around them in a way they cannot cope with, and rather than expand their bubble to embrace a changing world, they are contracting it instead, drawing it further within and freezing it in the hopes that they can be insulated from change.
Ironically, this will just make popping the bubble easier. How? By showing them inclusion is more powerful than exclusion. By letting them isolate themselves, but still offering them a chance to join the dialogue and be included in building positive change.
We need to be inclusive. All of us who are feeling that we are being railroaded by the political landscape need to work together, because together we are the majority, and far more powerful than this tiny minority enjoying a last gasp of power. We need to remember that all are created equal, and that we pretty much want the same things, but we have different approaches and means to those ends.
Yes, this is challenging. But in the end, it is celebrating our equality that will build the greatest positivity, and change the world for the better. Remember, we are all created equal.
Finding positivity is not hard, it just requires action. Knowing that all are created equal, we can see that we have more allies to work with to better our lives. When we work together we can build more with inclusion than exclusion, we can develop new connections across various divides, and together we empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
