Are You Having Fun?
Never neglect doing things that are fun.
When I was between 11 and 14, I went to overnight camps in upstate New York. Sometimes we would take hiking treks offsite. On two or three occasions, we went hiking at a place called Kaaterskill Falls.
I absolutely loved this hike. The falls are in two levels, the middle level having a clear pool one can swim in, and a natural amphitheater behind the falls. This was one of the hiking adventures that created my extreme love of a good hike. Not the easiest paths to traverse, lots of climbing and rock-scrambling involved.
For decades I have said I would return to Kaaterskill Falls. And at long last, more than 30 years later, I did. It was strenuous, and not as easy as it had been when I was at the beginning of my teens. Yet it was still extremely enjoyable.
Why don’t we do more things that are fun? The hike was exhausting, and the day after I was stiff and sore, but psyched because it made me feel good. I remembered why I loved hiking as much as I do. I really enjoyed the activity, and took some pretty awesome photos, too.
No, Kaaterskill Falls is not the safest nor easiest hike. You still have to be careful, the trail can be rocky, slippery, and there are some steep drops. But life is not meant to be completely safe. Where is the fun in that? I am not advocating unnecessary risk, but utter risk aversion, in my opinion, makes for a dull, blah life.
Risky or no, we forget how important it is to put fun into our lives. When find enjoyment in our lives, we invigorate and energize ourselves. Fun allows us to better handle the parts of life that are less fun, and to provide stimuli to advance growth and empowerment.
Have some fun.
I am going to make a point of doing at least one thing, every day, that I consider fun. It can be something big or small, but there should be something that makes me feel good. Why wouldn’t we all want to do that?
I think we don’t give enough consideration to having fun. Doing something fun feels good, it is exciting and it enriches our day. We poo-poo how important this is to us, and I for one want to do more. Fun is entirely positive, and we all need more positivity in the world.
Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.
Do something fun today. Knowing that fun makes us feel good, and draws positivity from feeling good, we should not neglect having some fun. When we do things that make us feel good, like having fun, ultimately we empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
This is the one hundred eighty-ninth entry of my Positivity series. It is my hope these weekly messages might help spread positive energies for everyone. Feel free to share, re-blog and spread the positivity.
