Yet the media showing us nothing but doom and gloom sells. It’s impossible to avoid. If you read or watch any news source whatsoever – it sure as hell looks like everything is coming apart. Between climate change causing unheard of weather conditions; distressing and authoritarian laws taking away women’s rights; racism, sexism, classism, and a mad mad mad world – the doom and gloom is everywhere. Do not be silent when you need to shout. See atrocities happening? Feel angry, distressed, disturbed, incensed? Make your voice be heard, and tell them this will not stand. We are being bombarded by almost surreal amounts of negativity. There are some pretty terrible things happening out there, and they cannot be ignored. No matter how much we try to stay away from all this bad news, it is impossible not to recognize the awful things that are happening. Hard
Positivity can seem pretty superficial in the face of reality. This has made writing this particularly difficult for me today. My government is doing something truly awful, and while on the one hand I feel powerless to do anything about this, I will not be quiet and ignore it, either. And it is infuriating. Pardon the interruption, but I am going to state this right now. We cannot stand for this disgusting action on the part of the US government.
If you are reading this, you probably have freedom. Freedom means a great deal. In the USA, freedom means the right to gather peacefully, to protest injustice, to love whom we choose, to worship as we wish, to express ourselves, and more. The positivity of this is immeasurable. Your hate is not more powerful than our humanity. That was the message delivered soundly in Boston this past weekend. The protesters from the alt-right, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups were exponentially outnumbered by the counter-protesters. People standing for unity, for equality, and peace proved they were much, much stronger than haters. The positivity of this act is immeasurable.
