The Ramblings of the Titanium Don

Must Everyone Celebrate Anniversaries and the Like?

When you celebrate you generate positivity – but this is about you and not anyone else. My father and stepmother got married in 1983. I was 11 years old and remember much of the event. Despite using their anniversary for a long-lost combination lock – I nearly always forget to wish them a happy anniversary. My mom and stepdad got married in 1994. I was 21 years old and remember the small ceremony at the synagogue. While I can tell

How Can Today Be Made into a Notable Special Occasion?

You can choose to treat today as the special occasion you desire for it to be. Our culture has a major love affair with celebrating special occasions. These include birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, graduations, and many massive achievements like promotions, marriages, births, and so on. The focus, however, often gets rather narrow when it comes to defining a special occasion versus the everyday. People put so much energy, time, attention, and investment into a given special occasion that they ignore all

Positivity: Seeking Help

When do you recognize you need some help? When do you stop and realize that no matter what you have tried, maybe you need outside assistance?  When do you accept that maybe it’s time to ask for help, seek treatment, or start taking the medications to restore balance? This is a matter of Positivity.  Knowing that you need help, and then getting it is incredibly powerful.  Nothing is more positive than acknowledging limitations and then getting assistance to overcome them.

Positivity: The Inconsequential is Important

Coffee.  Conversation.  Tea.  Meditation.  Sleep.  Holding the door for a stranger. Every one of these is equal in its power to generate positivity.  Every one of these can elevate your mood and improve a given day. The seemingly inconsequential is easy to disregard, especially in the face of impersonal matters like terrorism, poverty and corruption; or more personal matters like jobs, bills to be paid, not feeling able to find enough time for loved ones and fun.  What does the

Positivity: Monday Morning Choices

Monday morning.  For most of us, a new work week lies ahead. How do you face it?  Do you sigh, grumble, gear yourself up to take on challenges, deal with problems, and slog through the next five days?  What do you expect of the coming week? Despite our routines, we still get to choose our approach.  I began to write Positivity on Mondays because I am constantly bombarded with negativity in regards to the standard work week.  Here we go

Positivity: Community

Community is about finding belonging. We all want to belong.  We all want to find a place where we can have our people, surround ourselves with the like-minded to share experiences.  That is how you form a community. Some communities are wide-ranging and spread out over a broader spectrum of interest, like a specific city or town.  Some are more specific, like a religious institution.  Some are particularly specialized, like a club or volunteer organization. It’s certainly possible to be

Positivity: Never Too Late

It is never too late. You are only too old, too poor, too uneducated, too uninformed, too fat, too short, too little or too much if you believe it to be true.  So, too, is the concept of being too late untrue. Time is only an illusion.  Our perception of time is frequently shifting, changing, and though we look to clocks and calendars, we see and feel it to be fluid and unexpected. Ever notice how there are times when

Positivity: Escape from Reality

Sometimes you just need to escape from it all. There are times when you feel so overwhelmed, you just need to get away, escape from your life, escape from your routines, and try something different. As you are reading this, I am on a vacation in a place I have never been to before, with the medieval reenactment society I have played with for over twenty-five years now.  Yet the majority of the people I will be with will not

Positivity: The Future is Not Yet Written

The future is not yet written. This is one of the most amazing, positive truths we can face.  Why?  Because it means that everything is still negotiable, and that even if we find ourselves on a less-than-desirable course, we can change it. It is easy to get caught up in believing that the future is set in stone.  Lots of people work very hard to sell you on the notion that there are limited possibilities for the future, and that

Positivity: New Day, New Way

New day, new way. No matter how I am feeling about what lies ahead of me, I know that this is a new day, and no matter what I have coming to me, there is always a new way. It is so very easy to get caught up in routine.  There is often comfort in our routine, which I think is part of why we as a species are so fond of maintaining status quo and continuing through certain patterns
