Coming soon: Finder – The Source Chronicles Book II

A year ago I decided that I had waited long enough; it was time to publish my fantasy series.

Seeker – The Source Chronicles Book I was begun in 1998. After several reworks and a professional editor, I tried to find representation for many many years.

Welcome to the 21st century. I determined it was time to self-publish. Thus I created Argent Hedgehog Press, and I formatted the book and Seeker was released into the wild.

The Source Chronicles began as a quartet of books, until book three, Harbinger, became far larger than anticipated. So The Source Chronicles is to be five books (Seeker, Finder, Harbinger, Guardians, Healers).

When I published Seeker last year, I promised that I would be publishing Finder this year. Well, it has taken a tad longer than I had wanted it to, but Finder is currently being edited!

I am still planning to publish Finder before the end of November.

Thank you everyone for your patience, and for your wonderful reviews! I hope that you will enjoy Finder as much as you enjoyed Seeker.

If you have not yet read Seeker, by all means, please go get a copy and read! If you have, and you are eagerly awaiting Finder, let me give you a little teaser preview…

Ok, you have been duly warned.

Three years have passed since Cam Murtallan helped to bring about peace and stability between Sharron and Medaelia. In the interveneing years he served both King Varlock-Sharron Anduin of Sharron and Queen Lyrra-Sharron Anduin of Medaelia as a companion and advisor. He studied from their libraries all that he could, and discovered clues that set him back on his path as Seeker to uncover the mystery that is The Source.

Cam has left his companions and journeyed across the sea to the continent of Nortamia and the nation of Vilcarr. Cam once more takes up his prophetic role as The Seeker, as he works to discover The Source.

Cam will make new friends and allies, and for the first time encounter other sorcerers. He is drawn to meet his destiny, but that will not happen without new challenges, perils and more!

Finder – The Source Chronicles Book II will be available soon. Keep watching for more information!

Vortex Pilgrimage: Available TODAY

Have you ever wanted to step outside of yourself, in order to better get inside your own head?

Have you ever wanted to explore your core being, and uncover who you are, and what makes you tick?

Have you ever wanted to take an adventure that would bring you understanding, peace and joy?

Vortex Pilgrimage CoverImage

This is the premise of Vortex Pilgrimage. Set in an alternate reality, the protagonist takes a journey of self discovery and works with masters of the mind, body and spirit to truly understand himself and along the way gain greater perspective.

I took a great deal of inspiration for this tale from the works of Paulo Coelho. The Alchemist, The Valkyries, Manuscript Found in Accra and his many other books are modern fables that tell timeless stories in a way that draws the reader in and opens the mind to new avenues and possibilities.

I find inspiration in Paulo Coelho’s storytelling, and have strived to build what I hope is an inspirational story of my own. I enjoyed writing this story so thoroughly that I had to rebuild it to be shared.

This is a departure from my regular genre work and style. Inspirational fiction, modern fable, literary fiction, even to some degree fantasy – this particular story told from the first person perspective is difficult to classify.  However, I think it is a unique adventure and I am very excited to present it to you.

Vortex Pilgrimage is available TODAY. Read, enjoy, review, and please if you like it support my work by letting your friends know so they can get their own copy. Available here in print and digital formats.

Vortex Pilgrimage Thoughts

I think everyone at one time or another goes through the process of finding themselves.

On more than one occasion I have taken that journey. In fact, as evidenced by my weekly blog posts, I am still in the process of such a journey now – and since we change frequently, I will likely always be on this particular trek.

There are numerous works of non-fiction in what gets lumped as “self-help”. Some are extremely practical and organizational, while some are more spiritual and metaphysical. People turn to these works in order to better understand themselves, and to live happier healthier lives for the most part.

There are in addition to the non-fiction writings out there works of fiction that also inspire and expand on the journey to create a life that excites us. A prime example, and the inspiration for my own such work, is Paulo Coelho.

I was introduced to The Alchemist a number of years ago now. I have re-read it a couple times, and listened to it as read by Jeremy Irons more than once. Its story of a boy following his “personal legend” is very much in line with my own concept of Pathwalking, and partially inspired my work on this notion. It has been on the New York Times’ Best Seller’s list now for 361 weeks and counting.

02-20-06_1717

While some of Mr. Coelho’s works have been autobiographical or semi-autobiographical, he writes a new book pretty much annually. I have read over a half dozen of them, probably more. His ability to blend reality and fiction intrigues me. So much so that I used the goal of National Novel Writer’s Month several years back to write a story in the same vein.

Vortex Pilgrimage began with multiple trips I have made hiking through the energy vortexes of Sedona and takes the incredible sensations I experienced therein and embellishes them. While I’ve experienced a deeper level of meditation in these places than anywhere else, the journey my alter ego takes in this story is far more expansive and detailed.

This has become a labor of love. Not my normal style or genre, I still felt such deep affection for this story that I edited and published it. It is my hope that others will appreciate the experience my character has, and maybe relate it to their own journeys of self discovery.

Vortex Pilgrimage will be formally available on Amazon as of next Tuesday, 7/21. I will share the links here on that date.

Coming Soon – Vortex Pilgrimage

I know that people are waiting for me to complete the editing of Finder – The Source Chronicles Book II. I am still on target to release the sequel to my first fantasy novel in November, so never fear.

I am, however, a writer who dabbles in multiple genres. For the most part I stick to the root of sci-fi and fantasy, though I consider The Source Chronicles to be a viable YA (Young Adult) series, and while Steampunk is its own genre, my Vapor Rogues series mixes in some sci-fi AND fantasy. I have done journalistic pieces and business writing professionally…and from time to time I play with other genres.

Me with vortex pilgrimage close

More than once I have used National Novel Writer’s Month (NaNoWriMo) to work outside of my ‘comfort zone’. Some of the results of this can be viewed on my website. A humorous narrative/memoir about the reason WHY I am the ‘Titanium Don’, a technothriller, and a modern fable akin to Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist.

Vortex Pilgrimage was inspired not only by The Alchemist, but by The Valkyries and Aleph and probably every other work composed by Paulo Coelho I have read. I follow him on Twitter, and I find him deeply inspirational overall.

If you regularly read my blog, you can probably see that I am a somewhat spiritual man. I see a world of potential and possibility, and I try to share what I see. I strive to practice regular meditation and I learned the energy healing modality Reiki. I firmly believe that Consciousness Creates Reality, and I wrote a fable that gives that very emotional journey a fantastical play to alight.

From the back cover of Vortex Pilgrimage:

What lengths will we go to in order to find ourselves?

There comes a point in everyone’s life where they want to really get to know their heart, mind and soul. Some of us take journeys of discovery – some literal, some metaphorical. All have the same goal – to better understand who we are and what we are meant to do with our lives.

Sedona, Arizona is known for its unique energy vortexes.   People have had some amazing experiences in these sacred places, and have sought them out to further their own self-understanding and connections to the world around them.

On a pilgrimage to Sedona, a man crosses the gateway at the vortex, entering an alternate reality where he is his idealized self. There he meets masters who take him on a journey of self-discovery through trials and lessons as he works to become a stronger, wiser and better person.

A fictional adventure of the spirit relatable to everyone in the here-and-now, Vortex Pilgrimage is a fable for the modern age.

Vortex cover 4

Vortex Pilgrimage has captured MY imagination for some time, and I think it is worth sharing. The novel will be available in paperback and electronically the week of July 20th. More specifics coming soon!

My Writing: Current Projects

I write in multiple genres.

My first love has always been sci-fi and fantasy, but they are not the only genres I work in. I have written several forms of poetry, journalism, and even started a venture around the idea of business writing. I blog at least twice a week, and look for other opportunities to wordsmith whenever I can.

I have on several occasions taken up the challenge of National Novel Writer’s Month. NaNoWriMo occurs every November, and the challenge is to bang out a 50,000 word novella in 30 days. Though I have participated in NaNo about 7 times, I have successfully completed a novella on 4 occasions.

I have chosen with this to write in an unusual genre or form for myself. One year I stuck to my strength and wrote a fantasy, that’s true…but my other three completed stories are not my usual subject matter. One year I wrote a technothriller (which could be sci-fi, arguably…but I do not consider it such). One year I wrote a humorous narrative of the life-changing event when I was struck by a car while crossing a street (wherein I gained the titanium in my body that is part of where the name of this blog comes from).

IMG_2511

One year I took my inspiration from Paulo Coelho. If you are unfamiliar with his work, I cannot highly recommend enough The Alchemist (which, as of this writing, has been on the NY Times best seller’s list a record 356 weeks). This is a fable, an inspirational tale of following your dreams and discovering your “personal legend”. It doesn’t hurt that the audiobook recording is narrated by Jeremy Irons.

Beyond The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho has written dozens of novels, often spiritual, inspirational and in some cases semi-autobiographical. None are terribly lengthy, but I have yet to read one that I did not enjoy. I am, in fact, currently reading his most recent novel, Adultery.

Inspired by Paulo Coelho’s work, I crafted my own story in a similar vein. I wrote in first person (which is unusual in-and-of-itself, as most of my fiction is in third person), and I took my own need for some spiritual journeying and embellished reality.

I have visited Sedona, Arizona several times. I have hiked all over the city, and through the incredible red-rock structures and trails therein. Sedona is known in the new-age and hooky-spooky community as a hub of Energy Vortexes. What’s an energy vortex? It is a place where people can deeply feel spiritual and psychic energies. If you are into that sort of thing, it’s extremely cool and a pretty intense sensation and a deep feeling of peace and love and spirit (and if you are not into that sort of thing, it sounds pretty crunchy-granola-hippy).

If my blog does not hint at this enough, I am a relatively spiritual person. I consider myself energy sensitive, and I practice Reiki (an energy healing modality). I am still, I think, a fairly grounded person, but I believe in the ability to commune with nature and to create reality through consciousness to build the life we most desire.

My own experience on a couple of these hikes to Sedona, coupled with inspiration from Paulo Coelho’s works led me to write Vortex Pilgrimage. I gave my own spiritual journey a fantastical reality, and wrote what I hope might be an entertaining and maybe inspirational story.

I am taking the necessary steps to prepare Vortex Pilgrimage for publication. To wit, the in-process back-cover text:

What lengths will we go to in order to find ourselves?

There comes a point in everyone’s life where they want to really get to know their heart, mind and soul. Some of us take journeys of discovery – some literal, some metaphorical. All have the same goal – to better understand who we are and what we are meant to do with our lives.

A fictional adventure of the spirit relatable to everyone in the here-and-now, Vortex Pilgrimage is a fable for the modern age.

I have considered if I should publish this under a nom de plume, but I have already previously published magazine and online news-site articles clearly not sci-fi or fantasy as MJ Blehart.

I enjoy this story, and I hope that you might as well. It is my intent to release Vortex Pilgrimage sometime in July.

Watch this space for more updates.

PS – Finder (The Source Chronicles Book 2) is still targeted to come out in November.

Seeker – Kindle Countdown Sale

Books make excellent gifts! Even eBooks!

Today (Friday 12/12) through Sunday (12/14), Seeker – The Source Chronicles I, is on sale for Kindle for just $.99.

I thought a holiday promotional sale was a good idea.

There is an element of Seeker I have not written about before – and that’s the human element. The world of t’Thera may be a fantasy world, but even the sorcerous are human. Like the people we all know, these humans are flawed. Perfectly imperfect. They make mistakes, they do foolish things…but they also learn from them. They grow and change and evolve.

I have worked hard to create characters that are unmistakably human. Whether noble or common, magical or not, these are people who are not just caricatures of men and women, but multi-faceted people.

I strived to make the people and world uniquely interesting, and I hope if you have read my blog you might find the fantastical characters I have created relatable, and realistic. I know that the genre of Fantasy has a lot of works within it, and that certain tropes are well worn and played a hundred different ways…but I think I have offered here some original approaches, and some pretty awesome characters.

Follow the link above and here to get your own copy of Seeker.

(Please note – $.99 sale may have been scheduled to launch at 8am PACIFIC time – so on the East Coast may not be live til 11am).
