Some days you just take one step at a time. Then follow it with another…and another…and so on.
For myself and many of my friends and loved ones, last week was a serious downer. We lost people who meant a great deal to us. Losing people special to us is hard. Returning to our regularly scheduled lives can feel particularly trying.
When I look for positivity every week, I acknowledge that nobody lives in a good headspace all the time. We get into arguments, car accidents, troubles with coworkers and friends, disagreements with loved ones, and experience losses. Part of the human condition is that we will be challenged along the way.
At times we can meet these challenges with fierce determination, empowerment, and high energy. Sometimes, though, we face these matters with hunched shoulders, tired hearts and minds, and low energy. We wonder what it would be like to have it easy.
These are the days we have to take it one step at a time. This is when living in the moment, taking the next immediate step is the best option. Too many things in our heads, too much sorrow, too much worry can weigh us down. Faced with that, life still go on. The sun will rise and set, even on a cloudy day.
On these days, the importance of just taking a single step, then following it with another, and another, cannot be emphasized enough. Sure, we could make the choice to wallow in our negative feelings, and let them linger. But when we do that, we let life live us, and we yield control. We disempower ourselves, and generally will continue to feel worse and worse. The negative feelings are not gone, but we can put them aside and keep moving forward.
One step is how every journey begins.
Nothing begins without a single step. Thought is a step, feeling is a step, action is a step. Between each of these, more steps are taken. Even when we are not feeling it, even when we are feeling bad, every step along the way is positive. Each step that we take moves us onwards, and that is good.
We all have bad days. Every single one of us gets hurt, feels pain both physical and emotional, and wonders how to move on. It is at these times that we need to find the attitude shifters, work on our mood, ask the right questions, and take one step at a time.
You’ve got this. I believe in you. You are here. There is positivity in that alone.
Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action. Knowing that every individual step counts towards moving us on, no matter how bad things might be, we can take that single step. When we follow that one step with another, and we continue along the way, we empower ourselves. When we feel empowered, we frequently spread that feeling to others around us; as such, we can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness. We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings. When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for. Gratitude leads to happiness. Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude. Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
This is the two-hundred and seventh entry of my Positivity series. It is my hope these weekly messages might help spread positive energies for everyone. Feel free to share, re-blog and spread the positivity.
