Will Your Path Make You Happy?

What is important to me is that I live a good life, and am happy more often than not.

We all have different priorities.  Nobody’s emotions are exactly the same.  While we may give our emotions the same names, odds are how they feel to each of us differs.

Taking that another step, what makes me happy is going to be different from what makes you happy.  Not just because of how it may feel differently to each of us, but because the what of happiness is such a wide perspective.

Right now our society is beset by people who care about nobody but themselves.  Business leaders and government officials have been particularly selfish and uncaring.  Many see the world as a pie, but a singular, small, limited pie, with only a few slices to go around.  Rather than use their ability to produce unlimited pie, they hoard what they have and try to convince everyone else that this is the truth.

There is not enough pie to go around.  I am going to take this all for myself, and none for you.  Of course, if they viewed this as limitless instead, we would all have more to share, more to give, more in general.

The Universe is vast beyond our ability to comprehend it.  Further, the Universe is abundant.  This is not a place of lack and want, it is a place of more than enough and plenty.  It’s important to recognize this because I believe that a tremendous amount of our unhappiness comes from feeling lack.

We all want to feel.

This is something we often deny.  I think one of the reasons for the popularity of the notion of Vulcans in Star Trek is the lack of emotion.  When you don’t feel emotion, you don’t feel want, and as such you don’t feel lack or loss.  Emotions are viewed as weakness, and showing them often is considered socially unacceptable.

Thing is, like it or not, we are emotional creatures.  Humans feel things.  Good and bad, happy and sad, ecstatic and angry, and everything in between – having emotions is part of the human experience.  Taking this out further, I believe that the thing we most want from our lives is to feel positive emotions.

Why do you do the things you do?  Because at the end of the day, you want to feel good.  Yes, this is a generalization, but I believe that most of us want to experience good things in our lives.  We want to be happy, or at least content, with the lives we lead.

It’s all well and good to just be.  If that makes you happy, then more power to you.  But if you are displeased with life more often than otherwise, I am pretty sure that you are probably working to find ways to be more content.  Means to be happier.

Pathwalking is about choosing for ourselves how our lives are to be.  Yes, that involves working towards goals, some of which are material.  But even the material goals are meant to be part of something more, something greater.  My goal may be to become a best-selling author, but WHY I want to achieve that is because in the end, I believe that that will make me happy.

Happy and nature versus society.

We have been presented with a pretty standard expectation of what life should be.  There is a widespread belief on the part of our society for what we should be doing, how we should be living, and what we should expect.  While on the one hand we encourage people to dream and strive to grow bigger than they are, on the other hand we discourage them from stepping away from the common.  Often we tell them that taking their own path is fraught with risk, and an unacceptably low chance of reward.

Is it any wonder our society often seems kind of schizophrenic?  We tell you that this is the land of opportunity, but then we advise you not to take a chance.  You get told that you should strive to be more than you are, but then people tell you they’re afraid you’ll fail.  We play on fear so frequently that we find that state of being to be perfectly ok.

I for one do not want to live in a state of fear.  Life is too short and too full of possibilities for me to accept that fear should dominate me.  Yes, things can happen to you when you take a risk…but things can also happen to you when you DON’T take chances.  We often are lead to believe that it’s better not to try at all than to try and fail.

Do you know what our world would be like today if many of the great innovators had accepted that?  If they had not tried and failed and tried again, so many modern conveniences we take for granted just would not exist.  Sometimes failure is the best teacher.

In the end it’s all about emotions.

Frequently the things we want are material.  From the physical like cars and homes and jewelry to the abstract like good jobs, great relationships and wealth, these are tangible things.  Yet why do you think you want the tangible things you want?  Because you believe they will make you happy.

This is part of why we all want different things.  What makes me happy is going to be different from what makes you happy, him happy, her happy, them happy, and so on.  We all want different things, and even when we want similar things they may be for different reasons.  My point is, the things we want are actually manifested tangibles of the intangibles we truly desire.

I do not know anybody who wants to be unhappy.  Even the people I know who seem to take some sort of pleasure in being frequently miserable do not actually desire for that to be their state of being.  In the end, the paths we walk are lead to a good emotional place.

Acknowledging this can go a long ways towards understanding ourselves better.  When we recognize that we have emotional needs, I believe we can do better with our self-care.

Last and certainly not least – you deserve to be happy.  Really, truly, you do.  You are worthy of having a good and happy life.  I know that may be hard to believe sometimes – I certainly struggle with it.  But it is unequivocally true.

How Joy Empowers Us

Living in joy is the ultimate goal.

I don’t want to spend my time at a desk, working for someone I might not entirely respect, doing something that bores me.  Life is just too short for that.  Rather, I want to do something that makes me happy.

Have you ever been told that “You have to work for a living” or “you gotta do what you gotta do” or “you have to make ends meet” or similar?  Likely, I suspect you have.  How come we so readily accept that work should be joyless and soul-crushing?

Crossing the Bridges 51Think about it.  Even if you are not working at something that isn’t ideal, how many people do you know that do?  How many friends and loved ones complain more about where they work than not?

How come we accept this?  Why have we decided that it’s perfectly ok to spend the majority of our waking hours being unhappy?

Yes, we can argue about “responsibility” and “being an adult” and on and on.  But consider this: we are only in these bodies, on this planet, for about a century – give or take a decade or two.  While our essence is energy, and will not be destroyed when we pass away, in these meat-popsicles our time is finite.

Not only is our society fear-based, but it’s also lack-minded.  We are inundated with messages that there is not enough, that we have insufficient supplies, that things are lacking.  This in turn leads some to hoard all kinds of things, and deny others because of this mentality.

Joy is a matter of abundance.

The universe is abundant.  Despite our being constantly told that it’s not, it actually is.  We are capable of manifesting pretty damned amazing things, when we get out of our lack mindset.

This is something I have been working on for some time.  I tend to get caught up in the lack mentality, and because of this I have spent a great deal of my life indecisive.  I couldn’t decide what I actually wanted, so frequently made no choice at all.  In my possession are many old journals, where entries from my thirties are all about being down, lacking satisfaction and joy and so on.

For years, I would tell you that my theme song was U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.  This applied to my home, job, relationships, spiritual state, financial state, yadayadayada.  I complained a lot,  questioned everything, and felt very alone.

What changed?  I started to take action.  As I have mentioned many times, Pathwalking was borne of a New Year’s Action, to begin to write weekly.  From there, I began to take on this idea of conscious reality creation and making choices.  Lo and behold, I started to experience changes I wanted to see.

I got into a stable relationship.  There was a job I mostly enjoyed.  The SCA continued to provide me with an outstanding social outlet.  I was writing, and began to see works published.  I began to truly pursue my joy.

How come I didn’t do this sooner?  In part, because I believed when I was told “writers don’t make much money” and “you can’t make a decent living as a writer” and similar.  Most of these statements were made to me not maliciously, but “for my own good” and to help me make choices along the way.

Joy is too important to ignore.

We tend to give our pursuit of happiness and joy a lot less attention than we should.  We have accepted the narrative of our society that happiness and joy come in small doses.  While I acknowledge that it’s impossible to live in joy all the time, I still want to experience it more frequently than its negative opposites.

I know that I have to earn a living, that I need to contribute to society in a productive manner, and always strive to do my best.  What I do not accept is that I should spend most of that time discontent.  Must I accept that the majority of my day should be spent doing something that is unsatisfying, and leaves me unable to experience much joy?  I say no.

You can go ahead and call me irresponsible.  I accept that society largely will think I am crazy for working on conscious reality creation to manifest a joyful life.  But when all is said and done, the ultimate goal I believe everyone is in pursuit of is joy.

Changing the lack mentality and fear-based society we live in can feel really daunting.  This is why it starts with each and every one of us.  When I stop feeding the lack and fear machines, and instead empower the abundance and contentment engines, I believe I can help empower others.  It is not selfish to seek abundance and joy for ourselves when we act on sharing it.

Abundance for joy.

I am working on taking a new approach to my day.  When I start to feel like I am lacking, I will actively work on focusing on abundance.  I will use gratitude for the things I have, and see the abundances of my life.  Even the little, easy to take for granted things are a matter of abundance.  Rather than focus on things I don’t have, I will work on focusing on gratitude for the things I have.

Viewing the world as abundant instead of lacking is something we can all do to change it.  We can’t ignore the problems of the world, but instead of lamenting them, we can work on making our own individual lives abundant and joyful.  I think this is totally a worthwhile goal, don’t you?

GOAL LOG – Week 36:

Diet:  Mostly back on track, writing it out again.

Exercise:  Fencing two days, one day at the gym, one energetic hike.

Writing:  The three blog posts were done; a blog post to my author website; a couple days of writing in the sci-fi story.

Meditation:  Five of seven days last week, never less than 10 minutes.

Gratitude:  I was grateful for 5 things a day, over 5 days.

Do You Love Yourself?

Do you love yourself?

This is not a trick question.  How do you feel about yourself?

Modern society tends to look askance at self-love.  Why?  Because our society frequently deals in extremes, and on this scale the extremes are selfishness and selflessness.

A great deal of our fear-based society focuses on greedy, intolerant, ignorant, selfish people.  Government, religious and business leaders frequently show us exactly that.  Selfishness in the extreme, to the detriment of everyone else.

Because that’s such a huge part of our societal conversation, it is necessary to counter the selfishness with selflessness.  Giving, helping, reaching out in whatever way we can to improve the lives of those less fortunate than us.  We work tirelessly to assist the less-fortunate.

The thing is, the vast majority of us do not live on the extreme ends of any given spectrum.  We are all, for the most part, centrists of one ilk or another.  Very few people are any given extreme, because that simply is not human nature.

The thing is, in order to be more selfless, we need to care for the self.  This is why it’s important to ask whether or not you love yourself.  If you do not take care of your own emotional, spiritual and of course physical needs, how can you expect to give to anyone else?

To love yourself is not selfish.

Plain as that, self-love is not selfish.  The problem, though, is that in a society focused on extremes, self-love frequently gets miscast as selfishness, narcissism, egomania and other negative connotations.

Loving yourself is not selfish.  To love yourself is not an inflation of the ego, or bragging about things you are doing, it is about caring for who you are.  It is about respecting the things that make you a good person.  Self-love is acknowledging your abilities, skills, talents, and the good you can do.

I have struggled with this for a large portion of my life.  For many years I barely liked myself, let along loved myself.  I saw a fat, uncertain, frequently indecisive man who couldn’t hold down a job or a relationship for squat.  Didn’t like who I was, and I did not like my life all that much.

Pathwalking began as an attempt to follow-through with something.  A decision was made to blog weekly.  It is nearly six years now I have been writing this, and along the way I began to like myself.  I saw what I was capable of, and I saw what I could do.  Then I strove to find ways to love myself, to see what makes me an incredible person who can share this incredible journey with you.

There are days this is easy, and there are days I still struggle.  Last job I worked turned out to be increasingly unsatisfying in multiple ways, and then it was gone.  Still struggling to get my weight down to a healthier level.  I am working on keeping a schedule for writing, editing and exercise to create the path I want to walk in this life.  Some days it works better than others, and remains a work in progress.

Love yourself and you give yourself fuel.

To drive your car from point “a” to point “b”, you have to put gas in the tank.  If you don’t have enough gas, you will stall out and get stuck somewhere, quite possibly in the middle of nowhere.  Self-love is the fuel in your gas tank.  This is equal parts spiritual, emotional and physical.  If you have insufficient self love, you will get stuck somewhere.

Love is the ultimate generator of positivity, of good, of growth and energy and happiness.  When you do not love yourself, you have little fuel to do much of anything.  If you want to do more than just let life happen around you, if you want to take control and make changes and grow, you have to love yourself.

How do you learn to love yourself?  I am still working on this regularly, but this is what I have come up with thus far.  First, you have to accept that to love yourself is different from narcissism, selfishness and other negatives.  To love yourself is healthy.

Second, you have to find the things that are good about you.  A friend inspired my writing of this with a Facebook post asking us to name one thing we love about ourselves.  We all have something that we can love about ourselves.  There is some talent, some ability, some thing that we can do which we love about ourselves.

Third, you have to express your love for yourself.  Take an action that will make you feel good.  Eat the cake, get the massage, watch the movie, have sex, read the book, tell the joke, do something that makes you feel that love for yourself, and use that energy to fill the tank.

To like yourself is to love yourself.

Starting with things you like about yourself can lead you to find love for yourself.  What is it about you that you like?  What makes you feel good?  Are there particular talents and skills of that you like having?  Do you choose to share with others something you like about yourself?

It is not a huge leap to get from liking yourself to loving yourself.  One of the biggest hurdles, though, is recognizing the difference between self-love and selfishness.  Love for yourself is not narcissism.  When you love yourself, you develop a huge resource of tools and options to not only live the best life you can, but to give the most you can to others.

I know we live in interesting times.  We need to be kinder and nicer and better to others.  However, in order to do that, we need to be kinder and nicer and better to ourselves.  When you do not love yourself, you haven’t got enough fuel to give to others.  Recognizing this can lead us all to improve the world around us.

How Awesome Are You?

You are awesome.  Yes, I am talking to YOU.

We are not told frequently enough how incredible we are.  You are awesome.  For real, you are an amazing, incredible person, and you have a lot to offer to this world.

Self-doubt has the unfortunate power of stopping us from becoming what we want to be.  Some of the doubt is due to outside influences, but the majority is on each and every one of us.  We are our own worst enemies and harshest critics.

It’s easy to question the choices we have made.  Society is pretty judgmental, so it doesn’t take much to view the verdicts of those around us as our own.

I have made choices that were less-than stellar.  Decisions were made and not made that have placed me in my life where it is now.  I am a master of doubting myself, and I allow my doubts to manifest into fears.  When doubt becomes fear, guess what happens?  Yup, I sabotage myself and continue to build up more and more doubt.

How many of you do the same thing?

Don’t doubt how awesome you are.

You are an incredible person.  No matter what errors you have committed, what mistakes you have made, you are awesome.  You are the one and only you that there is.  When we each accept ourselves for how awesome we truly are, we can move mountains and create amazing things.

Consciousness creates reality.  When we focus on our doubts and perceived shortcomings, guess what we tend to create more of?  Reasons to doubt and see our shortcomings.  Focus instead on how awesome you are, and all that you care capable of.  When we do this, we generate incredible positivity, and that in turn makes us happier.

Positivity - How Awesome Are You?Do you want to be happy in this life?  I do.  Look, the world is imperfect.  Some is the result of people and their various machinations.  Some are nature, as in nobody can be blamed for the hurricane ravaging Texas.  What matters is that we take our awesomeness and use it to do good and offer necessary resistance to our fear-based society.

Don’t doubt how awesome you are.  I believe in you.  I may not be anyone of consequence in your life, but if I believe in you, shouldn’t you be able to believe in yourself?  Do not doubt how awesome you are.  Know that YOU are awesome!

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.

Knowing that you are awesome, you can let go of your self-doubt and use your awesomeness to manifest an amazing life.  When we let go of our self-doubt and recognize how awesome we are, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Five Questions for Restoring Positivity

Restoring Positivity can be challenging.

April 2017 March for ScienceHere in the United States, we have recently been inundated by messages of hatred, intolerance, bigotry and worse.  Active hate groups are feeling empowered by certain elements of our government, and have been spewing their venom unabashedly.

Hard to feel positive in the face of this.  And yet, Positivity is the key to overcoming the hate.

Here are five questions which will help us to restore our Positivity when we are feeling powerless, sad, angry, or otherwise negative.

Five questions to restore Positivity

  1. What am I grateful for? Gratitude is probably the single most powerful tool for creating Positivity.  When we feel grateful for things in our lives, we will increase things to be grateful for.
  2. Who do I love/Who loves me? Love is a major part of Positivity for all of us.  Love raises our frequency, and allows us to feel better in the face of things that do not feel good.  While at times it may seem hard to believe, love is more powerful than hate.
  3. What is good in my life? Yes, this is a matter of gratitude, but from a different perspective.  Rather than just being grateful for things we have, we are actively seeking the good in our lives.
  4. What can I do about the bad I see? This is a more loaded question, but seeking answers will often present solutions that will help us to feel positive in the face of negativity.  There are always options available, and sometimes just asking ourselves what they are is the key to changing our feelings.
  5. How am I feeling? While this may seem like a no-brainer, it’s amazing how frequently our emotions simply run wild.  We just go with what input we are receiving, but don’t question how that is actually making us feel.  Negativity comes in many forms, and each can be handled with different things to be fixed.  Altering anger may be different from altering frustration; changing hopelessness could be different from changing sadness, and so on.  Knowing how we actually feel is important.

Restoring Positivity Restores Us

Mount VernonWhen we run low on cope, finding means to restore our Positivity actually restores us.  Positivity allows us to feel better about life, the universe and everything.  There will always be happenings that will make us feel negative, and that’s not a bad thing, per se.  But holding onto negativity only draws in more negativity, so actively seeking Positivity is important to our wellbeing.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that there are questions we can ask to restore our sense of Positivity, we can take steps to improve how we are feeling.  When we take control of our emotions and work on removing negative feelings, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

What Happens When the “Other Shoe” Drops?

When the other shoe drops, do you pick it up?

I have been anticipating this situation for several months now.  I had hoped to depart on my own terms, but I suspected this was coming.  So it was not much of a surprise.

The job I have held for the past year, and been duly grateful for, has come to an end.  Now my eight hours a day in a place where I was all-too-often bored, and frequently unhappy, is no more.

I am not upset nor angry about this.  Rather, I am seeing it as an opportunity to move my life forward.  Consciousness creates reality, and I know what it is I want to create.  There are bridges I want to cross, and cross them I will.

Since I was let go from the job, I have made excellent use of my time.  A while back I created a schedule I called A Day in the Life – The Life I Most Desire.  In that schedule I laid out my work day (starting at 8:30am), giving myself time for writing and editing, exercise, reading, lunch.  I even gave myself time to goof off in the morning, play games, put my brain in gear at my own pace.

How will this make me money?  That is not what I am currently focused on.  I am concerned with living life in the manner I have long desired, and from this action find everything I need to live as fully as I can.

Can I sustain this?  That remains to be seen.  I am striving to find a way, because this is how I want my life to be.

Can I make money doing what I love?

This is the elephant in the room, the question that most needs to be answered.  Can I work this all out so that I will make money doing this?  How can I make this happen?  Is there a way I can get this blog to make money; more books to sell; other options that involve writing for money?

The first step in manifestation is believing.  Faith, which I mentioned before, is important to conscious reality creation.  Most of all, faith in myself as a creator, and from there faith in the Universe.  Faith in my belief in conscious reality creation and manifestation.

I know that this works, as I have made it work before.  I need to apply it to now, to my life as it currently is, and to become whom I want to be.  To do that I have to think it, feel it, take actions like following this schedule I created to make it so.

The Secret approaches conscious reality creation with different words – Ask, Believe and Receive.  Action for the thought – ask; for the feeling, believe; for the intentional action, receive.  In thinking about this life I want to live, I am asking of myself to become a professional, full-time writer.  When it comes to feeling, I am believing that I have made this manifest.  Lastly, my actions are a reflection of my receiving what I have asked for.

Where do I go from here?

Now that I am not spending most of my waking hours in a place where I was unhappy, I am better able to feel positive, to feel how it feels to succeed at what I want.  Yes, I could dwell on the loss of my salary and changes to my benefits, but in what way will that be healthy?  I instead am making a choice to take this situation and make the very best of it that I can.

Life is too short to spend so much of it unhappy.  How come we accept so readily that this is what work is meant to be?  I know that I need to make money to pay for the things I want and need in life, but do I have to miserable making it?  Why do we so easily accept that at face value?

I think somewhere along the way we, as a society, have lost sight of what we work for.  We are not on this planet for the limited time we get to be here just to go through the motions, we are here to live.  We are here to experience life, good and bad, up and down, in all its amazing glory.  Spending eight or more hours every day in a place that leaves us exhausted, unhappy and stressed does not make any sense.

Yet we all know that we have to earn money, and to earn money we have to work.  The goal is often to earn as much money as possible, and that being the case we will take the jobs that pay the most and offer the best benefits, even when they do not make us happy.  That’s the standard way we do it.

I am not a standard person.

I have never been “normal”, whatever that means.  My life has regularly involved partaking of a different path, a unique way of being – sometimes by choice, but in my youth more often by circumstance.  For example, I didn’t choose for my parents to divorce when it was an uncommon thing in the 1980’s.  It was not my choice to be a part of the relatively small Jewish community in the ‘burbs of Minneapolis, surrounded by a majority of Lutherans.  I chose to pursue theatre in my high school rather than with the local JCC.  Then I chose to be the only graduate of my HS to attend Ithaca College in New York State.

Before I understood intentional actions and conscious reality creation, I frequently did unusual things.  I made choices that were entirely my own.  But due to my lack of understanding about conscious reality creation, I frequently have experienced being the square peg attempting to fit into the round hole.  I need to leave no room for doubt, and create the life I most desire.

Sometimes this is more challenging than not, but I am going to make it work.  As always, thank you for crossing the bridges with me!

 

GOAL LOG – Week 30:

Diet:  I’ve been pretty good this week overall, following a weekend of not as good.

Exercise:  Fencing one day, four days of various exercise at the gym, and an afternoon of swimming.

Writing:  The three blog posts were done; editing of Harbinger occurred; I did some work on my sci-fi novel.

Meditation:  Five of seven days last week, never less than 5 minutes.

Gratitude:  I expressed gratitude for 5 things on five days last week.

Can Positivity Make You Happy?

Ultimately, everybody wants to be happy.

I believe that’s what we all most want.  Happiness.  When we are happy, we are more capable of living a complete, satisfying life.

Positivity is a direct path to happiness.  Happiness is one of the ultimate in positive feelings, which is why it’s so important that we find and cultivate it as much as we can.

There is more than enough anger, intolerance, unhappiness and outright hatred in the world.  Adding to that only generates more.  Since consciousness creates reality, when that’s our focus, that’s what we create more of.  Getting inundated with and overwhelmed by all this negativity just draws more of it in.

This is why it’s important to look for and find things that make us feel happy.  Positivity, in any form that it takes, is a lead-in to happiness.  Positive is equal to good, and good is a feeling that can evolve into happy.

Happy is simpler than we make it out to be.

This is not about that blissful, euphoric, overindulgent happy that movies and TV try to sell us; nor is it the Happily Ever After of a fairy tale.  No, this is that feeling in the pit of your stomach, that sensation that makes you want to smile, maybe even laugh.  Honest, simple, happiness.

Rather than allow the sheer volume of negativity across social media, and all the insanity of politics and religion and such of modern society dominate us, we need to remain aware.  We need to be more familiar with our state of mind, our state of being.  From there, we will be better able to combat all the negative messages, and create better.

We cannot change the world if we do not change our small corners of it.  If you don’t feel good, how can you help anyone else feel good?  I fall into this trap myself from time to time, which is part of why I write about this frequently.  These Positivity posts were created to remind myself about the necessity of finding means to feel good, as much as they were created to help you do the same.

Want rather than DON’T want.

Last but very much not least, remember that the Universe doesn’t recognize messages like I don’t want to feel this way or that…it only registers want to feel this way or that.  This is why focusing on positivity to create more of it is imperative.  It is one of the keys to happiness.  Awareness of thought, feeling and action leads to conscious reality creation; ergo we are all cable of creating amazing, happy lives – and share them.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that ultimately, we all want to be happy, and positivity is a key to this, we can work on our awareness of positivity, and seek more of it.  When we find positivity, and we use positive things to make ourselves feel good, this can lead to us feeling happy; ultimately we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Where do you find your Path?

Where do you find your path?

This can be a daunting question.  Finding the path you want to walk is a matter of necessity.

No two paths are the same.  Similar in some respects, but not the same.  For example, it is my personal goal to become a bestselling author.  While there are lots of bestselling authors out there, each of us will traverse different paths to that goal.

Knowing my path, where did I find it?  The simple answer is that I have found it in joy.  When I get the most lost in what I am doing, and I am happiest, that is where I found my path.

There are several universal means to finding the where of your own paths.  As such, where you find your path, different though it may be, originates from the same point.

Where do you feel most joyful?

This is the first question.  What do you do that brings you the most joy?  What makes you feel the happiest?  It is there you can find your path.

For me, there are two particular things that bring me absolutely tremendous joy.  Fencing and writing.  Whenever I get the chance to attend a fencing practice or weekend event, I fight with all the energy I can muster.  I absolutely love the game, love the feeling of swords in my hands, the difference in choice of weapons.  Learning a new move, or employing something unusual is exciting.  The joy I feel from the game moves me.

Writing is how I best express myself.  I can wrestle words into submission in any form I choose.  I love writing sci-fi and fantasy, but I also absolutely love writing my blog.  Sharing my thoughts on Positivity and Pathwalking and Crossing the Bridges makes me unbelievably happy.  It feels good to reach out to and support other people striving to live their fullest lives.

Even writing brochures and advertisements and web content is still fun for me.  Where mathematical equations frustrate me, creating with words to me is almost as easy as breathing.

Thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Everything begins in thought.  Every invention, every manmade notion began in thought.  You wouldn’t even have a path to consider traveling without a thought.  So the thought is the beginning.

To turn the thought into a thing, you have to feel it.  Feeling what it would be like to have your thought made manifest is important.  You need to power your thought with emotion, or you won’t create much of anything.  Feeling drives the thought into being.

From the thought, to the feeling, you move to intentional action.  Taking a step based on the feeling from the thought is where you begin your Pathwalking.  So you find your path in the thought, the feeling points you in the right direction, and the intentional actions you take move you along it.

We choose to walk our own paths because we want to control our own destinies.  There will always be new paths to walk, because life, the Universe, and everything changes.  While this can be somewhat daunting, it’s also pretty exciting.

Where do you lose track of time?

I have a friend I have been fencing with for quite some time now.  He and I will frequently fight at practice for a ludicrous amount of time.  Multiple passes, each of us attacking and defending, and on more than one occasion we’ve only stopped because we realized we had been at it for some time.  We’ve been known to go anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes.  When each bout on average lasts less than a minute, this equates to a whole lot of fighting.

It is the joy of the game that makes us lose track of time.  Our bodies get tired, we perspire a whole lot, but we are having so much fun that we just don’t notice the time pass.  It is that feeling that will tell you where your path can be found.

Writing works the same for me.  Often, when I get going on a story or editing, I will completely lose track of time.  I won’t stop for anything because I am excited to get the idea out of my head and onto the page.  The words flow through me, and I have to put them out there.

Sometimes I will go back and read something I wrote, and I was so caught up in the moment that it’s almost unfamiliar.  Losing yourself to joy is a sure sign you’ve found your path.

Beware of outside influences “accepting” you.

I don’t know about you, but I have been told more than once that work is not supposed to be fun.  Work is something you do because you need to earn money.  You take the best paying job with the most benefits you can get, and you do it because that’s what society expects of you.  Do your job, earn your pay, take your joy in the little things but suck-it-up, because that’s how it works.

I have a very hard time accepting this notion.  Why?  Most adults in our society spend from six to twelve hours, a third to half of their time awake, every day, at work.   If your job bores you, leaves you dissatisfied, or worse stresses you out completely, is it worth it?  Is money and benefits but spending most of the day somewhere you are not joyful worthwhile?

We are only in this life for a limited time.  To spend the majority of that time unhappy is utterly illogical.  Yet we readily accept the notion that to participate in our society, we have to suck-it-up and do the job.  Take that commute, work for and with people you’d rather not spend time with, earn the money.  That is how we gain acceptance from society at large.

Find your path, find your joy, live huge.

This is why I have chosen to Pathwalk.  I don’t want to spend the precious time I am on this planet, in this body, unhappy.  Living the fullest life I possibly can is what I desire, and I want to manifest awesome things and contribute what I can to the world at large.  I want to live in joy, and I want to choose for myself what that means.

Consciousness creates reality, and I want to create the best reality I can.

Seven Sources to Inspire Positivity

Sources to inspire Positivity can be found anywhere.

Some sources of inspiration are easier to come by than others.  Yet knowing we have an endless pool of resources, we can be inspired and find Positivity in all sorts of unexpected places.

It’s important to keep in mind that inspiration doesn’t need to be a grandiose, earth-shattering something.  We can be inspired by surprisingly mundane and uncomplicated things.  Inspiration can be that simple spark that gets you to eat healthy, to go to the gym, to keep a journal, to make a shift for the better.  Sometimes it’s the littlest, straightforward things that can lead to the grandest changes.

What are some examples of simple inspiration?   The following list is by no means complete, but reveals a range of simple sources of inspiration to build positivity.

  1. Music. I think we often forget just how amazingly powerful music is.  We can listen to a slow, melancholy tune and reflect on the past, or get pumped to take a run by a heavy beat.  Music can be an incredible source of inspiration.
  2. Light. Sometimes a brightly lit room or a sunny sky can totally inspire your feelings.  There is something about light that can inspire emotions like nothing else.
  3. Dark. There is something to be said for the void that is dark.  When you take away one of your senses, you often heighten others.  When we are in darkness we can see less, which in turn opens imagination in possibly unexpected and inspirational ways.
  4. Color. Color can change our mood, it can make us feel warm or cold, it can be a source of inspiration to awaken all sorts of desire for change.
  5. People. Just spending time with other people can open you up to inspiration.  Maybe someone you know is doing something pretty amazing.  Or maybe you have people to work with to learn new ideas.
  6. Meditation. When you manage to pause and still your mind, you open yourself to all sorts of possibilities.  That’s one of the cool things about meditation – you open yourself up to communicate with Universal Energy, and since that is the source of everything, anything is possible.
  7. Reading. I think everyone I know has had a moment where they read something that opened up channels in their mind they were not expecting.  They found an idea they had not considered, and that inspired something that may not have occurred to them otherwise.

These seven sources are extremely common, are generally encountered every single day, and frequently are just in the background of our lives.  Yet they still have the power to inspire us to change, to try new things, to experience a fuller, more positive life.

You can never have too many sources for inspiration to create more positivity.

How to Make Monday YOUR Day

Today will be whatever you make it be.

It’s far too easy to approach Monday and the traditional start of the work week with distress, trepidation, displeasure, and unhappiness.  There is an entire culture of Monday woe in this society, which has been and continues to be capitalized on, and as such gets reinforced.

Does anyone want Monday to suck?  I am pretty sure the answer is NO.  I don’t really know anyone who wants to be miserable, who wants to have a bad day and a bad week, or who craves feeling powerless and unhappy.

We are all so much more powerful than we give ourselves credit for.  For real, we are the creators of the world in which we live.  My favorite line from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has always been, “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams.”  In other words, we have control over the lives we live.  We choose the beat we dance to in this life, and the dreams we experience.

Keeping this in mind, why do we so readily ascribe lousiness to Monday?  Because that’s our culture.  We have this wide-ranging belief that Monday, as the beginning of the new work week, is going to probably be no fun, distressing, and generally unpleasant.

If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, what do you think approaching Monday with dread is going to do?  Further, why perpetuate this negative, frankly depressing approach to a day in our lives?  We are only on this earth for a limited time.  Yeah, there are going to be days that suck, and there are going to be issues and problems and challenges to be had, and sometimes it really is easiest to just go with it, go with the flow, let it be as it will be.

However, we have a choice.  Rather than fall into this notion and allow for another lousy Monday, another set-up for a less-than-desired work week, why don’t we seek better?  Why don’t we use the tools we have available to us like gratitude and positivity generators to change the station, tune in more desirable music?

Yes, we will need to expend some effort to break from the norm.  It could make people look at us askance, and wonder why we aren’t doing things in the same way they are.  So what?  If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, if we approach the week from a positive perspective, then we are apt to attract more positives our way.

Monday needn’t start us off in deficit, we have the ability instead to begin in abundance.  Wouldn’t you rather look to be content and happy than distraught and unhappy?  Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we have the power to choose how to approach the start of the work week, we can work on choosing to approach it from a place of abundance.  When we see the day for possibility rather than for impossibility, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
