Why Create Reality?

I love to create.

I began to write fiction when I was nine.  Even with some breaks here and there along the way, I have continued to create characters, worlds, and stories to tell about them.

Why Create Reality?Then, about six years ago, I began to post to this blog weekly.  Pathwalking on Wednesdays was the starting point.  Two years later, I added Positivity every Monday.  Just over a year ago, these posts called Crossing the Bridges came into being.

All three of these posts cover different things.  Pathwalking is my personal philosophy for living the best life I can.  Through Pathwalking, I discuss striving to choose the life I desire most, and consciously create reality as I most want to see it manifest.

Positivity was in reaction to an abundance of negative posts to social media.  With everyone feeling down on a Monday morning, I wanted to post something upbeat to change the collective consciousness towards something better, and positive.

Crossing the Bridges came into being as sort of a self-check-in.  I view my life to some degree as existing on these separate islands.  One is the real world, trying to earn money in a desirable fashion to cover living expenses and more.  The next is the fantasy world I spend most of my weekends in, running around the Kingdom of the East and fencing, heralding, and hanging out with friends.  Then there is my creative worlds, the writing I want to spread further and sell more of.

An online course I took about six months ago changed how I view this blog overall.  Instead of three individual posts that are unrelated, now they are part of the greater package.  The Ramblings of the Titanium Don took on a new direction, a blog exploring aspects of working on consciously creating reality.

There is always more to create.

I am exploring new creations all the time.  Whether I am composing a blog post, writing my sci-fi novel, or even working on a resume or other business copy, I enjoy the creative process.  When I get to create, I am enormously alert, aware, and content with the life I have.

Even when I struggle with a topic for one of the three weekly posts, the process of getting to create something still keeps it worthwhile.  I am making something new, and sharing it with you.  The positivity, joy, and wonder in that is rather awesome.

All three posts this week have been focused on the main orientation of the blog.  Consciousness Creates Reality.  I believe this.

Consciousness can also be defined as awareness, recognition, or even realization.

Create stands on its own, but could also be interpreted to mean to build, discover, or even establish.

Reality is the trickiest.  Yet without going into a philosophical debate about it, reality can be defined as existence, actuality, or even tangibility.

Why do these redefinitions matter?  If consciousness creates reality, then that means awareness discovers tangibility; recognition establishes existence; realization builds actuality.  We can even rearrange them to fit in any way.  Awareness establishes actuality.

When we are conscious of the thoughts, feelings and actions we take, we can create, build or establish a tangible reality.  This is manifestation of dreams into reality.  It is from this we can have virtually anything we want.

If this is so simple, how come everyone isn’t doing it?  Because we live in fear-based, lack-mentality society.  We are frequently told there is not enough to go around.  Then the greedy hoarders constantly paraded before us add to the negativity, causing us to second-guess if we can have the things we want, and remain a good person.

It takes effort to create.

We are a society of easy.  It has to be fast.  Instant gratification is barely fast enough.  Consciously creating reality can be quick, but seldom instantaneous.  Taking thought, putting feeling behind it, then intentional action requires some processing.  Thus, in order to manifest reality, we have to expend some effort.

This can cause any number of frustrations for people.  When we don’t see the results quickly enough, we get frustrated, and our power to manifest weakens with our resolve.  To consciously create reality, we have to believe it, completely, and know without doubt that it is come to pass.

It is hard to believe that right now we have what we desire.  In especial when, in the current illusion of our reality, we don’t.  Conscious reality creation works best when we presuppose the desired outcome is in the now.  See it as ahead, not quite there yet, it tends to stay ahead and not quite there.  A further challenge to the process.

I have made this work.  When the outcome was the only reality that could be, I achieved the goal intended.  I healed, got the girl, got the car, etcetera.  If I can apply my love to create things to the reality I most desire, I will be capable of crossing any bridge I encounter.

Consciousness creates reality.  I know this to be true.  Anything I want to create is mine for the making.  It’s up to me to use this and manifest the life I most desire to live.

GOAL LOG – Week 44:

Diet:  I resumed mostly tracking my food intake this week, and was more conscious of it.

Exercise:  Fenced twice, did a bunch of walking.

Writing:  Three blog posts, and some other writing work.

Meditation: Three days this week, never less than 5 minutes.

Gratitude:  I was not tracking gratitude again.

How does Conscious Reality Creation effect my life?

Our souls are forever, but our bodies are finite.  We only get one shot at life.

I read and listen to a lot of self-help books.  I have read and/or listened to works by Tony Robbins, Jen Sincero, Rhonda Byrne, Stephen Covey, Wallace Wattles, Napoleon Hill, Boni Lonnsburry and more.  The topics range from ideas for how to live life to the fullest, manifestation, controlling our emotions, choosing our own destinies, making money through ways we love, and so on.

LifeAll of them at their core get to the same point.  Consciousness Creates Reality.  Every single one of these authors is saying their own thing, in much the same way most of the world’s religions have the same message.  Be good to yourself, be good to others, stay positive with your thoughts AND feelings, and you can have the world as your oyster.

If we focus on a great deal of the world around us, this feels like total bullshit.  I mean, really, how can we consciously create reality and still live in a fear based society? How, with people spewing hate and greed and intolerance like open spigots, can this possibly work?

That is both the super-complicated yet almost unbelievably simple question.  I have been chasing this question for quite a while now, which is why this blog exists in the first place.

Consciousness Creates Reality

I know, from my own experiences, that consciousness DOES create our reality.  I have managed on more than one occasion to make this work.  When my thoughts were wholly focused on only one possible outcome, it worked.

I healed faster and more completely from serious injuries than the doctors could explain.  I acquired a car when mine was dying and my credit was horrific.  The girl I wanted got naked with me, even though others more attractive, thin and muscular than I failed.  There are always parking spaces for me.

Some of the manifestations I consciously have created are, in the grand scheme of things, rather unimportant.  Except, and this is one of the harder aspects of this to grab, the seemingly unimportant things are usually most important.

We love grandiose stories.  The romance where, through impossible odds, the lovers come together; rags to riches; happy endings.  On the other hand, we accept certain truths about how life is supposed to work.  You work five days a week at a job that might leave you unsatisfied because you have to earn money; there are things not talked about in polite society; there are limits and lack all over.

These authors I read and listen to all point out that, with strong focus and iron will, anything is possible.  While that can feel very hard to believe, I still recognize that it is true, and I have been working on doing better at taking my life where I want it to be.

This life is meant to be abundant.

For much of my life I have decided not to decide, chosen to stand at a crossroads but not pick a path, let fears stay my hand.  Yes, there have been shining moments of brilliance where I broke free of this and decided, and the results were incredible.  Now I am working on making this more of a habit.

We live in an abundant universe, with infinite possibility.  We can have pretty much anything we believe we can have.  But society insists that there are limits, and because we’ve been indoctrinated into that idea, escaping it can be challenging.

All of the authors I read and listen to reject the limited universe.  They embrace unlimited potential, possibility, and passion for life.

Yes, some of what their works contain is a bit hard to swallow.  Some of their approaches are uncomfortable, seem like total crap, and to many espouse hippy-crunchy new-agey gobbledegook.  I agree that a lot of what they say is common sense, or aimed at persuading us to enlist in helping them make more money from what they “preach”.

However, the key tenets and ideas, the notion of conscious reality creation, is at the heart of it.  If you brand it as The Law of Attraction or The Secret or whatever, it’s the same thing.  We are all a part of something bigger, and this is part of what it is.

Beware of false equivalencies.

Conscious Reality Creation and the idea that it can make you wealthy is different from the Prosperity Gospel we hear a lot about these days.  Prosperity Gospel relies on the will of God; Conscious Reality Creation relies on ME.  The former is often blindly followed to the exclusion of many, whereas the latter requires ultimate awareness and self-care.

Frequently, Prosperity Gospel has come to imply that only the wealthy, who have gotten rich through faith and atonement offered to God, are worthy of anything.  It is being used to disempower a huge swath of our society, and furthers one of the divides among us.  Conscious Reality Creation is about self-empowerment, for our own good, and through our empowerment we can empower others.  Prosperity Gospel seems much more concerned with monetary wealth than overall abundance.  These are very different ideas.

This life, spent in this meat-suit, is a singular experience.  Since we are energy at our core, we cannot be destroyed, just transmuted to another form.  While I am here I want to experience all that I can, and I want to live joyfully and find illumination every day.  I continue to work at this daily.  And yes, some days are harder than others, but I believe this is worthwhile.

GOAL LOG – Week 33:

Diet:  Mostly back on track.

Exercise:  Fencing two days, time at the gym and a couple days of long walks.

Writing:  The three blog posts were done; editing of Harbinger occurred; I did some work on my sci-fi novel over the course of four separate days.

Meditation:  Five of seven days last week, never less than 6 minutes.

Gratitude:  I expressed gratitude for 5 things on four days last week.

Where do you find your Path?

Where do you find your path?

This can be a daunting question.  Finding the path you want to walk is a matter of necessity.

No two paths are the same.  Similar in some respects, but not the same.  For example, it is my personal goal to become a bestselling author.  While there are lots of bestselling authors out there, each of us will traverse different paths to that goal.

Knowing my path, where did I find it?  The simple answer is that I have found it in joy.  When I get the most lost in what I am doing, and I am happiest, that is where I found my path.

There are several universal means to finding the where of your own paths.  As such, where you find your path, different though it may be, originates from the same point.

Where do you feel most joyful?

This is the first question.  What do you do that brings you the most joy?  What makes you feel the happiest?  It is there you can find your path.

For me, there are two particular things that bring me absolutely tremendous joy.  Fencing and writing.  Whenever I get the chance to attend a fencing practice or weekend event, I fight with all the energy I can muster.  I absolutely love the game, love the feeling of swords in my hands, the difference in choice of weapons.  Learning a new move, or employing something unusual is exciting.  The joy I feel from the game moves me.

Writing is how I best express myself.  I can wrestle words into submission in any form I choose.  I love writing sci-fi and fantasy, but I also absolutely love writing my blog.  Sharing my thoughts on Positivity and Pathwalking and Crossing the Bridges makes me unbelievably happy.  It feels good to reach out to and support other people striving to live their fullest lives.

Even writing brochures and advertisements and web content is still fun for me.  Where mathematical equations frustrate me, creating with words to me is almost as easy as breathing.

Thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Everything begins in thought.  Every invention, every manmade notion began in thought.  You wouldn’t even have a path to consider traveling without a thought.  So the thought is the beginning.

To turn the thought into a thing, you have to feel it.  Feeling what it would be like to have your thought made manifest is important.  You need to power your thought with emotion, or you won’t create much of anything.  Feeling drives the thought into being.

From the thought, to the feeling, you move to intentional action.  Taking a step based on the feeling from the thought is where you begin your Pathwalking.  So you find your path in the thought, the feeling points you in the right direction, and the intentional actions you take move you along it.

We choose to walk our own paths because we want to control our own destinies.  There will always be new paths to walk, because life, the Universe, and everything changes.  While this can be somewhat daunting, it’s also pretty exciting.

Where do you lose track of time?

I have a friend I have been fencing with for quite some time now.  He and I will frequently fight at practice for a ludicrous amount of time.  Multiple passes, each of us attacking and defending, and on more than one occasion we’ve only stopped because we realized we had been at it for some time.  We’ve been known to go anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes.  When each bout on average lasts less than a minute, this equates to a whole lot of fighting.

It is the joy of the game that makes us lose track of time.  Our bodies get tired, we perspire a whole lot, but we are having so much fun that we just don’t notice the time pass.  It is that feeling that will tell you where your path can be found.

Writing works the same for me.  Often, when I get going on a story or editing, I will completely lose track of time.  I won’t stop for anything because I am excited to get the idea out of my head and onto the page.  The words flow through me, and I have to put them out there.

Sometimes I will go back and read something I wrote, and I was so caught up in the moment that it’s almost unfamiliar.  Losing yourself to joy is a sure sign you’ve found your path.

Beware of outside influences “accepting” you.

I don’t know about you, but I have been told more than once that work is not supposed to be fun.  Work is something you do because you need to earn money.  You take the best paying job with the most benefits you can get, and you do it because that’s what society expects of you.  Do your job, earn your pay, take your joy in the little things but suck-it-up, because that’s how it works.

I have a very hard time accepting this notion.  Why?  Most adults in our society spend from six to twelve hours, a third to half of their time awake, every day, at work.   If your job bores you, leaves you dissatisfied, or worse stresses you out completely, is it worth it?  Is money and benefits but spending most of the day somewhere you are not joyful worthwhile?

We are only in this life for a limited time.  To spend the majority of that time unhappy is utterly illogical.  Yet we readily accept the notion that to participate in our society, we have to suck-it-up and do the job.  Take that commute, work for and with people you’d rather not spend time with, earn the money.  That is how we gain acceptance from society at large.

Find your path, find your joy, live huge.

This is why I have chosen to Pathwalk.  I don’t want to spend the precious time I am on this planet, in this body, unhappy.  Living the fullest life I possibly can is what I desire, and I want to manifest awesome things and contribute what I can to the world at large.  I want to live in joy, and I want to choose for myself what that means.

Consciousness creates reality, and I want to create the best reality I can.

How to Make Monday YOUR Day

Today will be whatever you make it be.

It’s far too easy to approach Monday and the traditional start of the work week with distress, trepidation, displeasure, and unhappiness.  There is an entire culture of Monday woe in this society, which has been and continues to be capitalized on, and as such gets reinforced.

Does anyone want Monday to suck?  I am pretty sure the answer is NO.  I don’t really know anyone who wants to be miserable, who wants to have a bad day and a bad week, or who craves feeling powerless and unhappy.

We are all so much more powerful than we give ourselves credit for.  For real, we are the creators of the world in which we live.  My favorite line from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has always been, “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams.”  In other words, we have control over the lives we live.  We choose the beat we dance to in this life, and the dreams we experience.

Keeping this in mind, why do we so readily ascribe lousiness to Monday?  Because that’s our culture.  We have this wide-ranging belief that Monday, as the beginning of the new work week, is going to probably be no fun, distressing, and generally unpleasant.

If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, what do you think approaching Monday with dread is going to do?  Further, why perpetuate this negative, frankly depressing approach to a day in our lives?  We are only on this earth for a limited time.  Yeah, there are going to be days that suck, and there are going to be issues and problems and challenges to be had, and sometimes it really is easiest to just go with it, go with the flow, let it be as it will be.

However, we have a choice.  Rather than fall into this notion and allow for another lousy Monday, another set-up for a less-than-desired work week, why don’t we seek better?  Why don’t we use the tools we have available to us like gratitude and positivity generators to change the station, tune in more desirable music?

Yes, we will need to expend some effort to break from the norm.  It could make people look at us askance, and wonder why we aren’t doing things in the same way they are.  So what?  If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, if we approach the week from a positive perspective, then we are apt to attract more positives our way.

Monday needn’t start us off in deficit, we have the ability instead to begin in abundance.  Wouldn’t you rather look to be content and happy than distraught and unhappy?  Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we have the power to choose how to approach the start of the work week, we can work on choosing to approach it from a place of abundance.  When we see the day for possibility rather than for impossibility, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Five Quick-and-Easy Positivity Generators

Everyone prefers to feel good over feeling bad.

Finding positivity is about finding ways to feel good.  We live in a society that feeds on a steady diet of negativity.  Fear is a tool employed by many differently “leaders” to keep people in line, and sensationalism sells and gets more clicks on social media.  This can make it far easier to live in fear and negativity than to find positivity.

Also, it’s Monday…so most of us are going to work after a weekend off.  It is widely accepted that Mondays should be loathed.  I figure, why start the work week in negativity and set that tone for the week, when we can create positivity and allow ourselves to feel better.

There are many, many things that generate positivity, but the follow five are things you can do with little or no effort, more than once in a given day, and they will help.

  1. Smile. Seriously, just take a minute and smile.  You don’t need to laugh, you don’t need to have anything in particular to smile about, simply smile for a minute or so, and see how you feel.
  2. Breathe deeply. Take at least two minutes to breathe deeply, intentionally.  Really focus on the breathing, and let the air in.  You’d be surprised how just breathing and not doing anything else will make you feel.
  3. Sit or stand more erect. Consider your posture.  When you slouch and slump, there is no energy flow.  When you stand up straight or sit up straight, you energize your core, and you would be surprised how that will improve your mood.
  4. Stretch. Roll your neck, roll your shoulders, stretch out your arms and legs for a minute or two. These are the only bodies we have, and we tend to abuse them.  Stretching doesn’t just keep our joints and muscles strong, it also helps us relax and feel more flexible.
  5. Disconnect. Go offline for a few minutes.  Take a short walk.  Step away from whatever you are doing and reset yourself.  This can be less than five minutes, and I always have suspected this is part of the allure for smokers.  You get away from it all a few minutes to get your nicotine fix.  Well, for non-smokers, we also need a few minutes to get away and break from things.  Leave your computes, tablets and phones behind for 1 to 5 minutes, and free yourself.

None of these things need to take more than five minutes, and can take as little as one minute.  All of them will allow us to feel better, and I know that I prefer to feel good over feeling bad.  It seems so very simple, and yet we tend to neglect this all too easily.

There are other options out there, but I suggest rather than getting caught up in the negativity of the world at large, each of us can generate positivity for ourselves, and from there we might find we can do much, much more than we think.

Where can you find Positivity?

Positivity can be found anywhere we look.

There are all sorts of thing, big and small, that can bring about positivity.  Sometimes they are easier to see than others.

We are alive and breathing.  We have amazing technology at our fingertips.  We are capable of loving and being loved.  We can have, do or be pretty much anything we desire.  There is sky above us and earth beneath our feet.

I know that it can feel like an impossible struggle to find positivity out there.  Sometimes the weather is upsetting, at times those we love and respect are disappointing us, and don’t even get me started on the state of politics in the world today.  And yet, even with all that taken into account, there are still ways to uncover and relish in positivity.

Sometimes we just need to slow down, take a breath, and maybe step away from things that are giving us more negativity than we desire.  Sometimes we need distractions, finding things to make us smile and laugh or otherwise redirect our thought processes.

Gratitude and inclusion can go a very long ways towards generating positivity.  Doesn’t it feel good to hear someone say “thank you?”  Do you know that saying “thank you” can be just as powerful, if not more so?  Expressing gratitude in our lives builds positive energy like nothing else can…and it’s really, really easy.

Perfect example – today in the United States is Memorial Day.  I want to say Thank You to everyone who has given of themselves to serve the country and protect and defend what we believe in.  Thank you, also, to those who offer the closest support to these men and women.  Thank you.

Our society is currently experiencing a real problem with exclusion.  We are being artificially divided by race, color, creed, religion, gender, and any other artifice one could devise so that those who feel they are in power can stay there.  When we work to be inclusive instead, however, we can generate an unbelievable amount of positivity, and when we work together we all benefit.

Yes, finding positivity can feel pretty hard.  But finding and generating positivity is good for our overall wellbeing, and it is always available to us – we just have to seek it out, and keep ourselves open to it.

Five Effects of Conscious Reality Creation

How does consciousness create reality?

When we focus on what we are thinking, how we are feeling, and then taking intentional actions, we become truly aware, and conscious of our decisions.  When we are aware, we take charge and gain control over what we are doing.

Life is too short to not be fully present and conscious of the reality we live in.  We are not on this planet for all that long, so wouldn’t it be better to spend more time being excited about possibilities?

The Law of Attraction, simply put, states that like attracts like.  In other words, what we think about, we can create.  Unconscious thought is how we have created most of the realities we live in now.  Conscious thought, as such, can create the more ideal reality we desire for ourselves.

This is one of those things most people just cannot wrap their minds around.  We each have the power of creation within us.  It is entirely up to us to figure out the best ways to use that.

Conscious reality creation has the following effects on us:

  1. When we think, feel, and act on our hearts’ desires, we are creating joy.
  2. When we create joy, we want to do things that will bring us more joy and happiness.
  3. When we are happy, we are working from a high frequency, and open to attracting more happiness.
  4. When we are happy with our lives, we are more capable of spreading that to others.
  5. We shift to being more excited for every day and the possibilities before us.

It is all-too-easy to believe that we cannot control the world around us.  In part, this is true.  You cannot control any other person and their actions.  You, however, are the ONLY person who can control YOUR thoughts, feelings and actions.  We accept that the reality that has been created by others is the truth.  Yet we are actually able to create whatever reality we most desire for ourselves.  We have that power, even when we do not see it for what it is.

This may seem simple, but if you do not truly believe, really think about what you want your reality to be; seriously feel how that reality will feel as if it is already a done deal; then take intentional actions based on those thoughts and feelings, you will remain in the reality you are in now.

If you are happy in this reality, then you have probably consciously created what you want.  But if you are not happy, not living your life to the fullest you believe you can have, then take the power that is already yours, and work through your awareness to manifest what you truly desire.

Consciousness can create reality, but it takes awareness of our consciousness and that which we desire to make manifest the life we seek.  Even if the process is imperfect, the act of conscious creation is enormously empowering, and that can change your world for the better.

How to Build Positivity: Getting into Better Shape

Taking steps to get in shape can generate massive positivity.

Getting in shape can also take a number of different forms.  Health is not simply measured as physical, but also mental, spiritual and emotional.  Giving attention to any one of these can improve our quality of life and be massively positive, while working on more than one or all of them can be hugely empowering.

Everyone is familiar with processes for getting into shape physically.  Diet and exercise, skin care, and other activities to maintain and improve ourselves are where the majority of the focus tends to go when we strive to get in shape.  We eat better, we exercise more, we work on taking better care of these physical vessels where we will exist for our whole time on earth.

Getting into shape mentally can take several different forms.  Reading books and listening to lectures or taking other steps to improve our knowledge base, playing games to sharpen our minds, getting enough rest…anything that provides the mind stimulus or flexibility gets us into mentally better health.  Mental health also involves dealing with matters such as anxiety and depression, and working on keeping ourselves together in the best manners possible.

Getting into spiritual shape is easy to neglect.  Everyone has different types and degrees of faith, whether we are talking about a belief in God, or the Universe, or even in yourself.  This is not about religion, that’s a wholly separate idea.  Spiritual health is believing that we can do great things, that we can find and create the impossible, and that we recognize and care for our inner light, the energy that is our core being, our souls.  This is the least tangible aspect we possess in ourselves, but one that should not be neglected.

Emotional health is separate from mental health, in that our feelings and state of mind can differ.  Granted, when we feel low, when we are down or sad or depressed we will have a harder time creating the things we most desire.  Yet we are completely able to take ahold of and change our emotional state at will.  Exercising this particular ability really helps us to get into the best possible shape emotionally we can.

There are two particular activities that can help us get into better physical, mental, emotional and spiritual shape.  The first is simply breathing.  Pausing to breathe intentionally from time to time heightens our awareness, draws more oxygen into our bloodstream, can clear the mind and help get ahold of our emotions, and raises the spirit.  The second is meditation.  Taking the time to be still and enter into the place of no mind provides even more stimulus and shaping up than intentional breathing.

Working on getting into better shape is always a matter of positivity, no matter what aspect you are working on to that end.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we can work on getting into better shape mentally, spiritually, and emotionally as well as physically, we gain an amazing tool for building positivity.  When we work on improving our state of being within any of these realms, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Positivity: Fresh Air

Cliché though it may be, there is nothing like fresh air to clear your head.

I like to take a few minutes during my work day to get a sun/air break.  Step outside, get some fresh air, escape the stale office air and my computer.

There is something cleansing, both physically and emotionally, in breathing in fresh air.  It awakens the senses, it rejuvenates the soul, it opens us up to possibilities.

I know that this is super-trite, but I find for me, at least, when stepping outside I breathe deeper than I do when I am in the office.  There is something about the open air under the sky that causes me to draw more breath.

We seriously take the power of breathing for granted.  I mean, for real, this is the single most automatic thing we do.  Our bodies demand oxygen to survive, so we are always subconsciously breathing.  Yet frequently we employ breath to calm our nerves and steel our resolve and to prepare of cope with a given situation.  How often do we “take a deep breath” to allow a moment to get clear on our thoughts before we speak, or to keep ourselves from expressing excess anger or frustration?

One of the reasons why focusing on your breathing is a primary key for mediation is because we are always doing it.  It’s automatic, it requires no thought, and we do it every single minute of every single day of our lives.  When we concentrate on it, focus on breathing in and out, we ultimately become aware, conscious and present in the here-and-now, which in turn lets us tune out the constant chatter in our brains for the preferred void of meditation practice.

When we become frustrated; when we get angry; when we are particularly tired, getting fresh air and being conscious of our breathing can go a long ways towards building and sustaining more positivity.  We all want more positive things in our lives, and this instinctive act provides us a mechanism to easily build more.

If you are currently feeling less-than-good about anything, take a moment, go out for some fresh air.  Breathe deeply, intentionally, and see if that begins to improve your mood.  I know it often works wonders for mine.

Positivity: Joy

Joy is one of the ultimate expressions of love.

We tend to not do nearly enough things that bring us joy.  We believe the lie that joyful things should only come in small doses, and that it is a limited achievement that should be particularly savored.

Why is this true?  Because we have accepted it as so.  Yet, really, it is not the truth.  Joy can and should be one of the driving motivations for everything we do.

Are we here on this planet, running around in these meat suits, simply so that we can labor and toil in sometimes unpleasant situations to earn currency to buy the essentials, let alone everything else?  Or are we here to experience life, to live as fully and abundantly as we can, with new adventures on a frequent basis?

If consciousness creates reality, and we live in an abundant Universe – and I am certain this is the truth of how it really is – then joy is not something that you store away like retirement money in an IRA.  Joy is an experience to be had as frequently as possible.

What is joy?  Joy is a feeling of tremendous happiness and excitement.  It is the thrill a dog shows its owner every single time they return home, no matter how long or not they have been gone.  The obvious pleasure and happiness as a dog squeaks and rumbles and wags their whole butt in addition to their tail, hardly able to contain his or her self.  That is a perfect example of joy.

What brings you joy?  There are things that we often take for granted, like listening to a cat purr as you pet it; savoring the flavor of the perfect chocolate mousse; the excitement as the trumpets blare at the opening credits of your favorite movie; the ding of a text message on your phone from your sweetie; all of these can bring us joy, and make us feel good.

Why does this matter?  Because we live in a world where our society is inundated with messages of lack, of sorrow, of fear and anger.  Changing this has to start small, and that means we can and should start with ourselves.  If consciousness creates reality, and everyone and everything is energy, then we all vibrate at various frequencies.  If we resonate joy, we draw more joyful things to us.  Joy being positive, it will draw more good things our way.  The end result is that we will be happier, and when each of us can be happier we can then strive to share that with others and change society.

Love is the ultimate in drawing positive energies our way.  Joy is an expression of love, and I know I prefer joyful things to sorrowful…don’t you?
