How is Pathwalking a Challenge?

I have a lot on my mind right now, and choosing a topic has been an interesting challenge.

I have been presented with the opportunity to well and truly walk my path.  This has put me in a position where I can work on setting the schedule I desire, make the use of my time I most want to.  Further, this has afforded me a chance to work on building the destiny I most want from my life.

While I am working on this, however, I am still aware of the world around me.  It is difficult sometimes to work on my own desires when I see what is happening out there.

While we can control our emotional state more readily than we usually acknowledge, it is still a challenge to do so.  There are competing feelings along the way, some of which serve and some definitely do not.

The issue here is reconciling who I am, versus who I was, versus who I want to be.  A great deal of this can be quantified with a more keen awareness of here-and-now.  Yet that presents its own challenges.

How do I create the life I most desire without neglecting responsibilities, and while working to have a positive impact on the world around me?  How do I change my mindset so that the bad feelings don’t overcome the good?

Challenges both personal and impersonal.

I have been effected by what is going on in the United States these past several months.  A Congress which cares only for their special interests; a greedy, narcissistic, clearly unstable man-child holding the Presidency.  Additionally, there are resurgent hate-groups rallying in public, threatening myself and my loved ones out of fear and anger.   I am striving to not let this inundate me, but I cannot ignore it either.

Finding a happy-medium and striking a balance between needing to know what is going on and being overwhelmed with information about it all is challenging.  Then, just to make it that much harder, living in a fear-based society where our media has to be scrutinized for bias and partisanship can be truly distressing.

Amidst all of that, I am working on creating the reality I most desire for myself.  What I want to do is non-conventional.  Thus it comes with a degree of guilt and even shame because I know so many people who believe this is not how it works.

How do I reconcile these seemingly opposed matters?  That’s the question before me today, so please bear with me as I walk through it.

Challenge Accepted.

First and foremost, I think I need to consume less media.  I want to be aware of what is going on out there, but I need to not drown myself in it.  There is just so much information.  Then there’s a metric ton of anger, fear, hate, loathing, deep concern, and all sorts of additional negative feelings attached to it.  I’m already avoiding watching any news networks.  I think I need to spend less time in my Twitter feed and online overall.

However, I still need and want to support those resisting this.  I am pro-equality, in every single form that takes.  A supporter of equal rights, pay, and equal treatment under the law, I need to continue to do all I can to show that support.

One critical aspect of this, however, boils down to my mental and emotional health.  By walking my own path and creating the life I most desire, I am setting myself up to be more effective to those causes.

Mental health is an inside job.

In addition to our society being fear-based, we also are terrific at passing the buck, placing blame, and taking little to no accountability for anything.  The message we are constantly presented with is that someone else is wrong, it is another’s fault, and so-and-so is blameless in ‘x’ matter.

This winds up getting applied to feelings as well.  You made me feel angry; that made me feel bad; they hurt me; you made me feel unimportant and the like get tossed about too easily.  Certainly other people and events can cause us to feel a certain way, but we are the only ones who can feel it.

We get to choose, when something makes us feel bad, how long to hold onto that.  Do you want to wallow in it, or acknowledge it, react to it, then let it go?  This is entirely within our individual power to affect.

As such, creating the life I most want to live will grow my positive feelings.  I have spent a lot of time working at jobs where I was not capable of living up to my full potential for any number of reasons.  I have spent a long time in that position because of a combination of choices, not choosing, and feelings of inadequacy or disillusionment or fear of success and failure.

Now I have reached the point in my life where I believe that I CAN have what I want, that I am able to do this thing which will ultimately make me happy, and financially secure, and stable.

Belief is the challenge.

Because I am facing conflicting emotions as I am beginning to walk my desired path, I am encountering difficulties in maintaining it.  I set a schedule for my “perfect” weekday, setting aside time to work, to read, to exercise, to make this happen.  Yet because I have some guilt about this, because it is unconventional, there is a slight undercurrent of doubt I am contending with.  This is making it harder to manifest what I want, and to take this to the next level where I can make a living doing this.

What I am currently reading speaks a lot to interrupting patterns and changing the language applied to my thoughts.  The greatest challenge I have right now is believing that I am capable of changing the message, creating the focus I need to feel the life I want to have into existence.  I cannot ignore the feelings of doubt, but I can choose if I will let them dictate my actions, or if I can change them to something more productive.

What Have I Done With Challenges?

Some challenges are better than others.

As I have mentioned before, the reason why this blog is called The Ramblings of a Titanium Don is due to two reasons. A title I get to assume from the Society for Creative Anachronism (the medieval re-enactment society I’ve been a part of for over 25 years); and the three titanium plates holding together my right clavicle.

In case you missed this: On the last day of November, 1999, I was struck by a car crossing a street a quarter-mile from home.   I suffered pretty severe injuries to my right leg, right clavicle, and nerve damage to my right arm.  What followed was a year of serious recovery and therapy, and some pretty wicked scars.

Yes, it was a hit-and-run.  No, they never caught the driver.  Now, nearly 18 years later, unless I show you the impressive scars (or you manage to hit the titanium plate with a sword while fencing against me) you wouldn’t know how broken I was.

Important life lessons were learned.

As I was starting my recovery, I discovered that there were three primary ways to live life.

  1. Go with the flow.  Let life live you.  Go about the routine, let time have its way with you and the natural ebb and flow of life carry you along.
  2. Curl up in a ball and wait for death.  Don’t experience life, complain about everything, blame everyone else, pray for the afterlife but mostly avoid this lifetime.
  3. Grab life like the proverbial bull by the horns, and take it for ride.  Make choices, take chances, fight and push and manifest what you desire.

I quickly learned that I preferred option 3.  My recovery surprised and delighted my therapists, my doctors, and my family and friends.  I defied expectations of both the speed of my recovery, and the totality of it.  It was during this period of my life that I came to recognize the power of consciousness creating reality.  I knew only one option.  There was no other choice.  I would walk again normally, I would fence again.  Hell, I would even run again with a fused tibia/fibula in my right leg.

This incident would redefine my life.  Over the course of the next decade and a half I shaped my life philosophy, and majorly embraced conscious reality creation to manifest my desires.  It’s not been without its struggles, and challenges, but it has redefined me in all sorts of unexpected ways.

Using the past to improve the present and future.

Every November there is a wonderful contest called National Novel Writer’s Month (NaNoWriMo).  The challenge: Compose a 50,000 word novelette in 30 days.  The prize:  The satisfaction of completing such a work.  I have faced this challenge several years, and completed a couple works (such as Vortex Pilgrimage).

In 2006, my second attempt at NaNoWriMo, I was debating what to write.  Several friends suggested that I should write out the story of my accident and recovery.  In particular many of the bits that had become some pretty funny stories years later.  I think we determined it might be an inspirational and humorous read for people.

This took my out of my comfort zone in several ways.  I was working a genre I did not normally do.  At that time I wrote sci-fi and fantasy more-or-less exclusively.  I also determined, because of the nature of the tale, to write in first person.  I normally work in third person perspective.

Most of all…there was a LOT of potential for embarrassment.  Yes, on the one hand I had this amazing recovery going on.  On the other, I was doing some rather uncool things (like cheating on my girlfriend).  How would this be received, not only by those involved in the story (even with the names changed), but by anyone who read it?

Suffice it to say, I wrote the story out.  I gave it an edit or two, and when I put up my author page, I included it in PDF for download.  When we first started dating my wife read it…and despite my less-than-chivalrous actions portrayed in the story, she stayed with me.

For a long time I have resisted sharing this.  Even though I have been told by several who read it this is one of my best works, I’ve been uncomfortable with taking it to a wider audience.  One reason is because I feared it might actually BE one of my best works.

What’s that all about?  Well, for a long time I was a sci-fi and fantasy writer.  It was these genres in which I most wished to be known.  I had a hard time wrapping my head around the notion of becoming known for anything else.

I am getting over that.  Hence this blog, and hence why I have finally have edited, and subsequently published The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With a Trip to the Post Office.

A sordid, funny, hopefully inspirational tale.

GOAL LOG – Week 28:

Diet:  Onwards and forwards.

Exercise:  Fencing two days, two days of a single lap around the small lake.  One day with a ton of walking.

Writing:  The three blog posts were done.

Meditation:  Five of seven days last week, never less than 6 minutes.

Gratitude:  I expressed gratitude for 5 things on three days last week.

How to Make Monday YOUR Day

Today will be whatever you make it be.

It’s far too easy to approach Monday and the traditional start of the work week with distress, trepidation, displeasure, and unhappiness.  There is an entire culture of Monday woe in this society, which has been and continues to be capitalized on, and as such gets reinforced.

Does anyone want Monday to suck?  I am pretty sure the answer is NO.  I don’t really know anyone who wants to be miserable, who wants to have a bad day and a bad week, or who craves feeling powerless and unhappy.

We are all so much more powerful than we give ourselves credit for.  For real, we are the creators of the world in which we live.  My favorite line from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has always been, “We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams.”  In other words, we have control over the lives we live.  We choose the beat we dance to in this life, and the dreams we experience.

Keeping this in mind, why do we so readily ascribe lousiness to Monday?  Because that’s our culture.  We have this wide-ranging belief that Monday, as the beginning of the new work week, is going to probably be no fun, distressing, and generally unpleasant.

If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, what do you think approaching Monday with dread is going to do?  Further, why perpetuate this negative, frankly depressing approach to a day in our lives?  We are only on this earth for a limited time.  Yeah, there are going to be days that suck, and there are going to be issues and problems and challenges to be had, and sometimes it really is easiest to just go with it, go with the flow, let it be as it will be.

However, we have a choice.  Rather than fall into this notion and allow for another lousy Monday, another set-up for a less-than-desired work week, why don’t we seek better?  Why don’t we use the tools we have available to us like gratitude and positivity generators to change the station, tune in more desirable music?

Yes, we will need to expend some effort to break from the norm.  It could make people look at us askance, and wonder why we aren’t doing things in the same way they are.  So what?  If like attracts like, and consciousness creates reality, if we approach the week from a positive perspective, then we are apt to attract more positives our way.

Monday needn’t start us off in deficit, we have the ability instead to begin in abundance.  Wouldn’t you rather look to be content and happy than distraught and unhappy?  Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we have the power to choose how to approach the start of the work week, we can work on choosing to approach it from a place of abundance.  When we see the day for possibility rather than for impossibility, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Five Quick-and-Easy Positivity Generators

Everyone prefers to feel good over feeling bad.

Finding positivity is about finding ways to feel good.  We live in a society that feeds on a steady diet of negativity.  Fear is a tool employed by many differently “leaders” to keep people in line, and sensationalism sells and gets more clicks on social media.  This can make it far easier to live in fear and negativity than to find positivity.

Also, it’s Monday…so most of us are going to work after a weekend off.  It is widely accepted that Mondays should be loathed.  I figure, why start the work week in negativity and set that tone for the week, when we can create positivity and allow ourselves to feel better.

There are many, many things that generate positivity, but the follow five are things you can do with little or no effort, more than once in a given day, and they will help.

  1. Smile. Seriously, just take a minute and smile.  You don’t need to laugh, you don’t need to have anything in particular to smile about, simply smile for a minute or so, and see how you feel.
  2. Breathe deeply. Take at least two minutes to breathe deeply, intentionally.  Really focus on the breathing, and let the air in.  You’d be surprised how just breathing and not doing anything else will make you feel.
  3. Sit or stand more erect. Consider your posture.  When you slouch and slump, there is no energy flow.  When you stand up straight or sit up straight, you energize your core, and you would be surprised how that will improve your mood.
  4. Stretch. Roll your neck, roll your shoulders, stretch out your arms and legs for a minute or two. These are the only bodies we have, and we tend to abuse them.  Stretching doesn’t just keep our joints and muscles strong, it also helps us relax and feel more flexible.
  5. Disconnect. Go offline for a few minutes.  Take a short walk.  Step away from whatever you are doing and reset yourself.  This can be less than five minutes, and I always have suspected this is part of the allure for smokers.  You get away from it all a few minutes to get your nicotine fix.  Well, for non-smokers, we also need a few minutes to get away and break from things.  Leave your computes, tablets and phones behind for 1 to 5 minutes, and free yourself.

None of these things need to take more than five minutes, and can take as little as one minute.  All of them will allow us to feel better, and I know that I prefer to feel good over feeling bad.  It seems so very simple, and yet we tend to neglect this all too easily.

There are other options out there, but I suggest rather than getting caught up in the negativity of the world at large, each of us can generate positivity for ourselves, and from there we might find we can do much, much more than we think.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that there are little things we can do to feel good, we have tools at our disposal to improve our days.  When we make the effort to use these tools to check and alter our feeling, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Where can you find Positivity?

Positivity can be found anywhere we look.

There are all sorts of thing, big and small, that can bring about positivity.  Sometimes they are easier to see than others.

We are alive and breathing.  We have amazing technology at our fingertips.  We are capable of loving and being loved.  We can have, do or be pretty much anything we desire.  There is sky above us and earth beneath our feet.

I know that it can feel like an impossible struggle to find positivity out there.  Sometimes the weather is upsetting, at times those we love and respect are disappointing us, and don’t even get me started on the state of politics in the world today.  And yet, even with all that taken into account, there are still ways to uncover and relish in positivity.

Sometimes we just need to slow down, take a breath, and maybe step away from things that are giving us more negativity than we desire.  Sometimes we need distractions, finding things to make us smile and laugh or otherwise redirect our thought processes.

Gratitude and inclusion can go a very long ways towards generating positivity.  Doesn’t it feel good to hear someone say “thank you?”  Do you know that saying “thank you” can be just as powerful, if not more so?  Expressing gratitude in our lives builds positive energy like nothing else can…and it’s really, really easy.

Perfect example – today in the United States is Memorial Day.  I want to say Thank You to everyone who has given of themselves to serve the country and protect and defend what we believe in.  Thank you, also, to those who offer the closest support to these men and women.  Thank you.

Our society is currently experiencing a real problem with exclusion.  We are being artificially divided by race, color, creed, religion, gender, and any other artifice one could devise so that those who feel they are in power can stay there.  When we work to be inclusive instead, however, we can generate an unbelievable amount of positivity, and when we work together we all benefit.

Yes, finding positivity can feel pretty hard.  But finding and generating positivity is good for our overall wellbeing, and it is always available to us – we just have to seek it out, and keep ourselves open to it.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we can find positivity almost anywhere that we look for it, we can open ourselves up to new ways to feel good and be happier.  When we make the effort to uncover and partake of positivity, we make ourselves feel healthier, and as such we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

How to Build Positivity: Getting into Better Shape

Taking steps to get in shape can generate massive positivity.

Getting in shape can also take a number of different forms.  Health is not simply measured as physical, but also mental, spiritual and emotional.  Giving attention to any one of these can improve our quality of life and be massively positive, while working on more than one or all of them can be hugely empowering.

Everyone is familiar with processes for getting into shape physically.  Diet and exercise, skin care, and other activities to maintain and improve ourselves are where the majority of the focus tends to go when we strive to get in shape.  We eat better, we exercise more, we work on taking better care of these physical vessels where we will exist for our whole time on earth.

Getting into shape mentally can take several different forms.  Reading books and listening to lectures or taking other steps to improve our knowledge base, playing games to sharpen our minds, getting enough rest…anything that provides the mind stimulus or flexibility gets us into mentally better health.  Mental health also involves dealing with matters such as anxiety and depression, and working on keeping ourselves together in the best manners possible.

Getting into spiritual shape is easy to neglect.  Everyone has different types and degrees of faith, whether we are talking about a belief in God, or the Universe, or even in yourself.  This is not about religion, that’s a wholly separate idea.  Spiritual health is believing that we can do great things, that we can find and create the impossible, and that we recognize and care for our inner light, the energy that is our core being, our souls.  This is the least tangible aspect we possess in ourselves, but one that should not be neglected.

Emotional health is separate from mental health, in that our feelings and state of mind can differ.  Granted, when we feel low, when we are down or sad or depressed we will have a harder time creating the things we most desire.  Yet we are completely able to take ahold of and change our emotional state at will.  Exercising this particular ability really helps us to get into the best possible shape emotionally we can.

There are two particular activities that can help us get into better physical, mental, emotional and spiritual shape.  The first is simply breathing.  Pausing to breathe intentionally from time to time heightens our awareness, draws more oxygen into our bloodstream, can clear the mind and help get ahold of our emotions, and raises the spirit.  The second is meditation.  Taking the time to be still and enter into the place of no mind provides even more stimulus and shaping up than intentional breathing.

Working on getting into better shape is always a matter of positivity, no matter what aspect you are working on to that end.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that we can work on getting into better shape mentally, spiritually, and emotionally as well as physically, we gain an amazing tool for building positivity.  When we work on improving our state of being within any of these realms, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Positivity: Fresh Air

Cliché though it may be, there is nothing like fresh air to clear your head.

I like to take a few minutes during my work day to get a sun/air break.  Step outside, get some fresh air, escape the stale office air and my computer.

There is something cleansing, both physically and emotionally, in breathing in fresh air.  It awakens the senses, it rejuvenates the soul, it opens us up to possibilities.

I know that this is super-trite, but I find for me, at least, when stepping outside I breathe deeper than I do when I am in the office.  There is something about the open air under the sky that causes me to draw more breath.

We seriously take the power of breathing for granted.  I mean, for real, this is the single most automatic thing we do.  Our bodies demand oxygen to survive, so we are always subconsciously breathing.  Yet frequently we employ breath to calm our nerves and steel our resolve and to prepare of cope with a given situation.  How often do we “take a deep breath” to allow a moment to get clear on our thoughts before we speak, or to keep ourselves from expressing excess anger or frustration?

One of the reasons why focusing on your breathing is a primary key for mediation is because we are always doing it.  It’s automatic, it requires no thought, and we do it every single minute of every single day of our lives.  When we concentrate on it, focus on breathing in and out, we ultimately become aware, conscious and present in the here-and-now, which in turn lets us tune out the constant chatter in our brains for the preferred void of meditation practice.

When we become frustrated; when we get angry; when we are particularly tired, getting fresh air and being conscious of our breathing can go a long ways towards building and sustaining more positivity.  We all want more positive things in our lives, and this instinctive act provides us a mechanism to easily build more.

If you are currently feeling less-than-good about anything, take a moment, go out for some fresh air.  Breathe deeply, intentionally, and see if that begins to improve your mood.  I know it often works wonders for mine.

Positivity: Joy

Joy is one of the ultimate expressions of love.

We tend to not do nearly enough things that bring us joy.  We believe the lie that joyful things should only come in small doses, and that it is a limited achievement that should be particularly savored.

Why is this true?  Because we have accepted it as so.  Yet, really, it is not the truth.  Joy can and should be one of the driving motivations for everything we do.

Are we here on this planet, running around in these meat suits, simply so that we can labor and toil in sometimes unpleasant situations to earn currency to buy the essentials, let alone everything else?  Or are we here to experience life, to live as fully and abundantly as we can, with new adventures on a frequent basis?

If consciousness creates reality, and we live in an abundant Universe – and I am certain this is the truth of how it really is – then joy is not something that you store away like retirement money in an IRA.  Joy is an experience to be had as frequently as possible.

What is joy?  Joy is a feeling of tremendous happiness and excitement.  It is the thrill a dog shows its owner every single time they return home, no matter how long or not they have been gone.  The obvious pleasure and happiness as a dog squeaks and rumbles and wags their whole butt in addition to their tail, hardly able to contain his or her self.  That is a perfect example of joy.

What brings you joy?  There are things that we often take for granted, like listening to a cat purr as you pet it; savoring the flavor of the perfect chocolate mousse; the excitement as the trumpets blare at the opening credits of your favorite movie; the ding of a text message on your phone from your sweetie; all of these can bring us joy, and make us feel good.

Why does this matter?  Because we live in a world where our society is inundated with messages of lack, of sorrow, of fear and anger.  Changing this has to start small, and that means we can and should start with ourselves.  If consciousness creates reality, and everyone and everything is energy, then we all vibrate at various frequencies.  If we resonate joy, we draw more joyful things to us.  Joy being positive, it will draw more good things our way.  The end result is that we will be happier, and when each of us can be happier we can then strive to share that with others and change society.

Love is the ultimate in drawing positive energies our way.  Joy is an expression of love, and I know I prefer joyful things to sorrowful…don’t you?

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that joy is an expression of love, which draws more good things to us, we can work to experience more joyful things.  When we work with things that bring us joy, we make ourselves happier, and when we are happier we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.

Positivity: This is Good Because…

One way to approach the unexpected is to look at it and consider, “This is good because…”

This is one of the best mechanisms I have ever come across for redirecting negative thinking.  Jen Sincero explains it in her outstanding book You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Live an Awesome Life (I cannot recommend this particular book enough).  When you encounter the unexpected, this idea can totally turn it around, and give you a more positive perspective where it might otherwise be lacking.

When you get pulled over by the cops for speeding, or dumped by your lover, or simply face a typical Monday, applying this can help shift your thinking, and raise up your vibration to bring in more positivity.  I got pulled over.  This is good because maybe I avoided getting into an accident and having an even larger expense.  I got dumped.  This is good because he/she clearly was not right for me.  Monday.  This is good because anything is possible.

Our perspective is unique to each and every one of us.  How I see the world is not how you see the world, nor anyone else.  We all come at life from different places.  This is why small groups of people all believe things that larger groups of people can empirically prove to be untrue.  While this can be a disadvantage when it comes to larger groups, more often than not it can actually be advantageous to us as individuals.

We live in an abundant universe.  Yes, I know that that can be hard to see sometimes.  But that does not diminish the truth of this statement.  The universe is full to overflowing with anything and everything we can conceive of.  Reframing the negativity to create positivity is a matter of raising our vibrational energy, and when we vibrate at a higher frequency we create better things for our lives.

How you perceive the world around you is wholly your perspective.  You have more control over this than you think, which is why when you are faced with a negative, redirecting it to something positive can help how you feel.  I know that I prefer to feel positive and good way more than I prefer to feel negative and bad.  Approaching unexpected things, or even unwanted and expected things, with the notion of seeking out a “This is good because” can open us to better possibilities.

This is not just the proverbial silver lining in a given cloud.  This is about turning around certain situations so as not to lower our vibrational energies, and manifest more of what we do not want.  Consciousness creates reality; like attracts like.  When we see we can choose to maintain a higher frequency and draw better to ourselves, we manifest more of the things we desire.

This is good because it means that I can find a way to handle anything that comes my way, no matter what it may be.  It’s all a matter of perspective.

Positivity: You Know Yourself Better Than You Think You Do

Who knows you best?

Easy.  YOU.

Nobody knows you, quite like YOU do.  You are the most cognizant of your strengths, your weaknesses, your hopes, your dreams, your fears, your goals, your moral compass, your ethics, etc.

You are the leading expert on YOU.  You, and you alone, know your every secret, every laudable and damnable detail of your whole entire life.  You are your own most intimate companion.

Why is this a part of positivity?  Because you have the ability to choose how you view yourself, and that is an incredible opportunity for creating massive good and tons of positivity.

We all have thoughts about the people around us.  Some are rather passive and benign, while some are much more rigid and, frankly, may be judgmental.  Likewise, people have opinions about each and every one of us.  Some are passive and benign, and some of course are rigid and judgmental.

All too often we care more about what these people think of us than what we think of ourselves.  Worse, we often let the opinions of others cloud our opinion of ourselves.  We spend all sorts of time trying to figure out what so-and-so’s problem with us is, and then start to question what we do and how we do it, we start to second-guess matters…and that way leads madness.

That’s not to say that the opinions of others are completely valueless.  If multiple people tell you that you are being too hard on someone, or worse too hard on yourself, it could prove to be the reflected image of yourself you need to see in order to make necessary adjustments.

You know what is best for you.  You know what you need, who you need, what you want, and you know why.  And when you do not have the answers right away, or you have decisions to make and are full of uncertainty, you know yourself better than you think you do.  You are the ultimate receptacle for everything about yourself, and that is positive in ways that are truly immeasurable.

No other animal on Earth, at least as far as we know, has the ability to think and reason and evolve in the same way that we do.  We get to choose where and how we want to live, what we want to do with our time on this planet, and whether to be a caring and generous person or a selfish and greedy individual.

But no matter what you choose, you know you better than anyone else.  The positivity of that is the biggest advantage you have for creating the happiest YOU that you can be.

Finding positivity is not hard, but it does require action.  Knowing that you are the subject expert on the topic of YOU, you can make all kinds of choices to generate tremendous positivity in your life.  When we realize that we know ourselves better than anyone else can, and we embrace the power to create what we need and want from life that that represents, we empower ourselves.  When we feel empowered, we often spread that feeling to others around us, and as such can build more positive feelings in the collective consciousness.  We can use the positive feelings this generates to dissolve negative feelings.  When we take away negative feelings, we open up space to let in positive feelings, and that is something we can be grateful for.  Gratitude leads to happiness.  Happiness is the ultimate positive attitude.  Positive attitude begets positive energy, and that is always a good thing.
