How Do We Make 2019 Amazing?

This New Year has the potential to be amazing.  All we have to do is to make it so.

It starts with ourselves.

This is not an act of selfishness.  I repeat, THIS IS NOT SELFISH.  Self-awareness and self-care are all-too-often taken for granted, or outright ignored.  But not caring for ourselves or being aware of our thoughts, feelings, and actions disempowers our ability to create.  When we cannot create, we really can’t give because we have nothing available TO give.

Amazing 2019So what does this all have to do with making 2019 amazing?  To do anything for anyone, on any scale, it all begins with the self.  In order to change the world, we have to begin by changing ourselves.

A lot of people had a seriously difficult time with 2018.  It was a year of challenges, loss, struggle, and difficulties.  On the grand scale, we are still working with some pretty messed up stuff.

But with the new year we have a new opportunity to do things that will get the year started right.  We can choose to see all the possibility and potential the new year represents, and take actions that will help drive it towards the places we desire to go.

How do we make the New Year amazing?

Consciousness creates reality.  When we work to be aware and mindful of our thoughts, feelings, and actions, we can make choices that will draw more good to us.  Like attracts like, so if we decide that this year can and will be amazing, then it will.  If we so choose. So, here are ten things we can do to help guide this new year towards all its amazing potential.

  1. Be Aware. Consciousness creates reality, but it always works best when we are conscious.  As such, we need to be aware of what we are thinking, how we are feeling, and actions that we take from there.  Ask questions like What am I thinking? How am I feeling? and What am I doing?  These questions bring you to the now, which opens you to being conscious and aware of what is going on both within and around you.
  2. Be mindful of what you say. Words matter.  What you say will impact your day, and if you are not careful words can hijack your thoughts and feelings.  When you are aware of whether your words are helpful or hurtful, empowering or disempowering, you can choose better for creating better.
  3. Be mindful of what you post. I follow a lot of people via social media.  It is super-easy to post memes and other things that make you feel negative.  Be aware of whether what you are putting out there is feeding fear, lack, and scarcity, or appreciation and abundance.
  4. Be mindful of what you do. There are often things we do by rote that we don’t give much thought to.  Cursing out bad drivers on the road; paying no attention to people walking around you in the grocery store; being indifferent or even rude to cashiers and wait staff are actions we can change.  Being aware of how you would want others to handle you, be mindful of what you are doing with others.
  5. Cut back on sources of negativity. We live in a fear-based society overflowing with messages of lack and scarcity.  Spend any time on Facebook, Twitter, or G+, and you will certainly come across memes and stories that will make you feel bad, get you angry, frustrate and disempower you.  When you are aware of these, you can decide how much or how little to engage with them.  I understand needing to be informed, but being overwhelmed doesn’t do any of us any good.
  6. Express gratitude. This is not just saying thank you, it is imperative that we FEEL grateful.  Gratitude is one of the fundamental building blocks necessary for creating an amazing year.  When you are grateful, you draw more to yourself to be grateful for.
  7. Laugh and smile daily. We all have things we need to do.  Some days are easier than others, and some feel as though they will never end.  But taking a moment EVERY SINGLE DAY to smile and laugh is hugely empowering.  Laughter feels good, as does smiling.  Take a conscious action to find something every single day that will make you laugh and smile.
  8. Be kind to yourself. It’s important to be kind to yourself.  When you make a mistake, fail at a plan, get something wrong, or cause somebody unintentional hurt, don’t berate yourself for it.  It is so very easy to be unkind to ourselves in light of things, but it is so much more empowering to give ourselves kindness instead.
  9. Create stillness every day. Meditation doesn’t need to be a lengthy process, but it is a great way to get ahold of the squirrels in your brain and stop them from running around.  Further, you don’t need to meditate; take a minimum of five minutes every day to just be still.  Listen to soothing music, a waterfall, nature, or silence.    Focus on your breath, and allow yourself that time to just be, no responsibilities, no expectations, in the moment.
  10. Be genuine. Don’t be who you think anybody else expects you to be.  Be yourself.  If you are good to yourself, true to yourself, and genuine, you are more capable of mindfulness and creating amazing things.  Be aware of what follows I AM, because those two words can create things that are amazing or things that are distressing.

Choose the amazing

The ten suggestions I make above might seem a bit daunting.  These are not things that are particularly difficult, per se, but the number may be overwhelming.  Why not break it down and do it in parts?  Choose to do one thing today, two things tomorrow…or stretch it out further.

Do one thing daily for a week…then two things next week, three things the following week and so on.  None of these are meant to be difficult or complicated, they are ideas to help build better practices for better habits.  From better habits, we can do things that will make this year amazing…and carry it beyond that.

Yes, it is only a number.  Time may be an illusion, but society sill tends to measure it with a certain degree of precision.  The mark of the new year is frequently used to create resolutions for change.

I have stated for a number of years that I find resolutions to be far too flimsy.  Hence, I began to work on taking New Years Actions instead.  One of those actions began my journey to blogging weekly seven years ago.

The important thing here is that you can choose to make this new year amazing, or just another date in the calendar.  This New Year has the potential to be amazing.  What will you do to make it so?

This is the three-hundred sixty-sixth entry in my series. These weekly posts are ideas for, and my personal experiences with, walking along the path of life to consciously create reality.  I share this journey as part of my desire to make a difference in this world along the way, and empower myself and my readers with conscious reality creation.
